....this was a rush "production" so my buddies at the banjo forums could hear my gawd-awful pluckin'

so, rather than have a page full of excuses, I am just showing I have the balls to put this up here!!

(hear that Chad?... you know...got the balls!!!! ha!!);)

Those balls are asleep right now. Will respond tomorrow ;)

Shave THIS, Chad!

I was wondering how the banjo was gonna' fit in with the bed when it started. The answer is...

amazingly well. Weird, but it does. Everytime I pick up a banjo (like twice now), I'm always shocked at how heavy they are...or maybe I've just picked up heavy banjos. Wow, there's a phrase you don't see every day... "Heavy Banjo."

Anyway, nice job on stretching out...banjo sounds kinda' distant, but what the hell am I gonna' tell you about mixing.

Doesn't suck at all.

Oh, and I'll give this 5 stars so that you don't think I'm the dickhead that apparently voted about 1000 times on your last thread. I've boycotted stars altogether, but it can't hurt here.

Chad...are you still asleep... watch that hand!!

Harris...yeah...I thought things were over between us:( Glad to see you know balls when you see them...

Banjos ARE heavy m-fuckers... Will make a Les paul player wimper...

The banjo is kinda distant... about 5 ft from the mic (not to mention all the reverb!!!)... actually there is none...just delayed tracks added.

you stand in front of a mic with a banjo and phones... talk about eXTreMe change in sound as you move around.. It's like mic'ing a frickin tympani drum.

But...we'll work on that after "we" learn how to play it first.

.....this dont sound like no Roy Clark:D This is cool man. I was expecting some kinda hillbilly thing.... ...pickin and a grinnin. I never would have thought of using banjo in this kinda context. I like man. ..You planning on finishing this or is this just a little experiment. I could go for 4 or 5 minutes of this. Very nice stuff mix. gw/5

Sounded pretty cool. I certainly didn't think it sucked. Coupl'a small timing things as you mentioned.

The other thing that struck me is it sounded like the mic(s) could be a bit closer. A little "far-offness" to the banjo sound. Agree? Oops - just read your 2nd post. I guess you do :).

What's Jake's opinion on 5 string banjo's? Are they 'gay' too? ;) LOL :D

Mix...you walk around with timpani's? :)

O, the song. Eh, it does sound a little weird but I'm used to Bela Fleck and his electric/triggered/altered banjo's. So I kinda like the sound...

So this is bluegrass? ;) :D

ok... you do got em, and in 440 stainless even !! :)

first off, the structure of the piece impressed me big time. Something new... and interesting.
2nd, the banjo picking is just the right thing for a piece like that, no showoff stuff, and just enough to hold its own with authority. You aint to bad for just gettin serious with it.
3rd, when I grow up I want those fat synths ( TLavitz gets some sounds like that)
What is it?
This is kinda jammy sounding so I aint gonna pick on nothing. But a fretless jazz, whining in the distance on the whole notes at the chord changes and an occasional 1/2 note would be beautiful on this passage.

oh yeah... I like the drums.

lol, ya never know, you just might wake up one morning and it just feels.....massive! ;)

Ped...you have a nice smile now... much better. is it the balls?

I don't have the massive fat balls yet. They're nice though...shall I post a picture? LOL :D

PUDdullist...go away...you're ruining my thread with that silly grin.. what are you sitting on in that picture anyway??

Guern, 3m, GT, toki... thanks for the confidence.

I'd go rerecord it with all those encouranging words...but Ped would then probably just change his picture again.;)

Fleck... a monster with no capo.. hard to believe, actually...eh Ped? You're a silly man... you HOMO!!

I'm sitting on my...........errrrr.....no let's not go there. :D

You know, it's hard to stay straight in a country where the prime minister does things like this!

(just to be sure: if you really think I'm spoiling your thread, or feel offended, please PM me. I'll delete these posts if you want, no problem)

nah....
you're a silly man... I'd go ahead and get that plastic surgury however..... go ahead...get those balls!! you only bounce once:D

Full recording alright. I've heard some banjo stuff in the past. They're usually country or countryish songs and this is probably the first time I've heard a banjo being used in a totally different genre, if you will (I've always wanted to say that: "if you will", now I feel SO smart for no reason :D ).

The playing is not that bad. A few places where you have to struggle to keep the pace but overall ok playing.

MUST...RESIST...DELIVERANCE...REMARKS!!

When I heard those keyboards, I thought where is a banjo going here? I even doublechecked to make sure I downloaded the right song! :p Then it kicked in and it worked pretty well with the song.

Fix the timing and micing on the banjo and I think you got something to work with here!

Where are those balls? Here comes the cleaver...

;)

Kind of like son of Studael meets son of Buck Owens. The 5-note run you're using is familiar... ahh, there's a song on Garageband (by some nobodies) that has that same melody... but it was progrock... so nobody's getting sued for copyright ;)

That's right... put the funk there... right there... on that 5 string boyeeeeee. Whitey crack whore needs his funk.

Recording seemed fine for a short demo... your usual quality.

Beck used a banjo on that "Sexx Laws" song from Midnite Vultures... pretty kick ass... and this idea of yours is cool too.

This reminds me of the Elton John Cd called The One. The feel of the drums and bass, with synth textures mixed with more organic ones. Like he's got a song called Whitewash County, kind of new age/country.

The banjo playing is not quite as slick as the keyboards, but it's the thought that counts :).
