albeit college radio.

Anyhow, after the success of amorita last semester, the manager asked me for another song. I am finally able to submit one that might match the success of Amorita(amorita was being played at least 12 times a day)

I am submitting the song to them first thing monday morning when school gets back from spring break, and I would like to run the mix by you guys to see if there is anything that jumps out at you.

Man, I tried to limit it more to get it louder, so that the radio station's compression would not affect it too bad, but any more and the kick would start distorting. Any pointers on this, or should I add a compressor after the limiter?

I listened to Amorita and I'm Begging Please. The mixes sound good. Nice stereo on the vocal on Begging Please. I don't think the falsetto vocal adds anything. I havre some of the same problems with singing, kind of searching and all around the note I really want. But there is something about both of these tunes that bothers me. I'll be as brutal as I can - they sound like a Casio keyboard set to autopilot. The sound is just pretty monotonous to me. If you can figure out a way to break up theat drum beat and bass line I think you would have a much more pleasing tune. That's just my opinion, fuck me, what do I know.

hey slkeen,

thanks for the frankness. I really have no excuse for the "4 bar loop with some added in chorus section" structure, but if I dont do it this way, then I'll never get any songs written. I dont know how to do drums, or really arrange music but I am getting better by the month.

I also write my songs around the loop so you see it would be a little bit impossible for me to do it different.

I do agree with you that changes would be better. Hey, that gives me a great idea. I think I will put the vocals on a website and ask people to download it for remix.

As far as the falsetto, what can I say- it kinda grew on me.

Thanks for the listen. I am happy you liked the mix.

Yo' CJ, I kinda' smell Big Pun/Fat joe influences w/o the rap!
Very smooth jammy, radio-friendly! Could use a more realistic bass line, and Casio or not, a bit more upfront presence with the keys. Your voc's flow aptly withe song's overall structure and the back-ground vocs are more than sufficient! Truly enjoyable !
Have you thought about adding a stronger musical edge to this potential top 40? ya' got all the framework here, just add a lil' mo'
punch to this and IMHO,you got a hit!!!
Excellent!

WOW!

thanks mrqcue,

I am very happy to hear that you liked it.

you mentioned edge and punch, and I confess, I dont know what you are reffereing to. Can you please expatiate? I would appreciate that. I still have till monday morning to make changes to this, so anything that I can do to make the girls go crazy would be appreciated.

Thanks again mrqcue.

um...

If you listened and found the track to be a bit dry and two dimensional, and the backing vox to have too much lows and not enough 3000, I can explain.

I had done the mix and the chorus last night and saved the improved mix to a new file. I forgot to open that file today when recording the lead and instead recorded into my regular mix. What a mess up.

Anyhow, I have updated the file, and you will find that there is more glue and more 3d depth to it. The backing vox also sound more polished to my ears.

I wont have found it except I was fretting over the sound and went back to mix, and Voila! my kick did not even have any reverb to speak of.

Anyhow, its still @

ps. Mrqcue, do you think you could redo the bass on this for me? I can put up a bassless mix.

Yo' CJ, it would be an honor!!! I'll give it a go either 2-nite or Fri afternoon! I'll be on vacation!!

What key is this jammy in!!??

Cool stuff Cyan.

You could be more confident in the versus's. The falsetto stuff has got to go for sure.

It's very 80'ish. Some great music came out of that genre. Gave me a flashback. Lots 'O' Samples music. An acoustic strumming away with the chord prog would break that stamp up.

I got the bassless version. Bass would help it to. Great background vocals!

Groovy!

Man, that’s some good stuff. I really like the vocal self accompaniment…tight, and well defined. Lots of headroom. Wish I could get that headroom. I’ll have to take Dr’s advice and get out of that cave more often.

I actually like this song a lot without bass.

Like "When Doves Cry"!
:D
