lol what mic do you think hes using here

(billie joe)

Hard to tell. My first impression is he's sing into the side of a 421, which would be stupid. Then again it almost looks like my AM-52 which IS side address. Could even be a Shure.

I was thinking AM-52 but Im looking at the one here on my desk, and unless he's singing into it backwards, its not the am-52. Looks a LOT like it though...

i don't know the am-52, but can it be set to fig 8?
(could explain the backwards)

ahhhhhh, the magic of google :)
just answered my own question. yes, the am-52 has a fig 8 pattern.
but i'm still not exactly sure that that's what it is.

lol cant find the am-52 anywhere on google lol im nt thinking of getting it or anything just curious of how much it costs :p

Groove Tubes (Alesis) made them. The figure 8 would make sense if you wanted the guitar in the null of the pattern to minimize its pick up.

which is exactly what seems to be going on here.

it's a shame that the "joke" isn't quite as funny when there's sensible logic at play. :p

cheers,
wade

.

That looks like a Shure KSM-32. One of the black versions. I believe it's called the KSM-32-CG (CG, I believe stands for "Charcoal Grey?"

It's a "mid-level" mic that's actually a great value for what you get (it's in the $500 range). Far from expensive.

Every musician knows just enough to be dangerous to themselves and others.

i guess dc is in wash.dc? is that a Gibson or an Epi? those cans look odd, what kind are they? do you have a larger picture of that so I can see if that's a Fender bullet bass? what pic is he using? (I only really care about the bass) :)

I don't think he's playing good riddence because that song is all open chords. Granted, he's not the most talented guitarist, but i think he's good enough to play it with open chords as opposed to power chords.

I always thought his arms were too short for the rest of him. Maybe it's me, but I still think so. And also, his head looks too big. whatev.

got me to thinking, a switchable mic in it's fig 8 pattern will often be brighter than in a cardi or omni pattern
the "back" lobe of a fig 8 is often ever so slightly darker than the "front" lobe

so, when using a multi pattern mic, it might (in theory) make sense to put it backwards when in a fig 8. maybe.

whare's harvy when i have a silly question? :)

Right here, and it's not a silly question. A figure 8 mic WILL sound darker off the back side BUT ONLY because you're listening to the sound thru headphones. On speakers, there's no difference. The reason has to do with combining the negative signal from the mic with the positive signal of your natural voice resonating in your ears. It cancels out the high end, but it's not recorded that way.

Record both sides of the mic and play it back; I doubt you'll hear much, if any, difference.

Unless of course you are recording into a Royer...

Which he is not so point is moot.

you have to learn to type 5 fucking words without putting an "lol" in there. this thread has not been funny at all.
