Tom, very cool groove. I like the way that the lead got kind of Grant Greenish toward the end.
Nice job.

2 WORDS

"Nice Chops"

I don't feel qualified to respond to this as anything other than a guitar player. Nice to hear some restraint in there for the sake of the melody...because you can obviously play.

I take it back...I don't like the bass...it's too perfect. So if THAT'S considered a criticism (i.e., being too perfect), than I guess I have one criticism. I don't think I've ever been criticized in such a manner.

Very clean...no REAL complaints. Do more.

I had to download it, but...

I had to download it, and it took awhile, but I thought it was worth it.

I finally got it..Thats a pretty good cover of the tune although George Benson has pretty much done all you can do with this one.Bensons Vocal is what makes it shine.....Ive heard a few instrumental versions of this in the past and this is pretty decent compared to those......is that a slap bass patch you're playing on the keyboard?Kinda like that slap bass synth patch on the seinfeld theme song.

is it a real bass??? hm... sounds good ... I would like the mix to be more polished or something..... (what am I talking about???)
I think it needs some toobes to warm it up... :D

good playing ... the kick bugs me, sorry... cklicky and just to upfront IMHO... but I'm on cheap phones so I'll check home for better reference.

good stuff
cheers

A big thank you to all for listening and commenting!
I heard on the news that euro hackers have mounted a major attack on US servers today.Could be why usually-reliable artistcollaboration.com has been futzy.
Yep,midi bass, keys and drums from my Roland JV-35.I quit my rock band recently and I'm doing my one-man band thing at home now.
Thanks again for all the comments.I learn a lot by bouncing this stuff off you guys.

Okay, I've always thought the definitive version of this song was by The Carpenters. Mostly because the lyrics are so good. That said, it's a wonderful melody that you've definately captured. I'm not too into the "easy listening/funky" vibe that you've got going on but the playing is awesome. Nice guitar solo, nice tone. The backing tracks are a little weird, especially the whooshy things. It's a very moody tune, why not try some moody elements. I haven't heard the George Benson version so I don't know how close you are to that or how much you were trying to emulate it. Other than that you've got a good handle on the recording and mixing thing, very easy to listen to.

I likes it.........the only thing I hear is the lead line seems kind of stiff. All the other tracks are groovin' and funky and the ride section of the guitar is great but that melody line sounds so stiff.....no embellishments and everything dead on beat with no accents or anticipations. I'd like to hear the melody line groove more. Good playing everywhere else though.

Hey Tom,
...beautiful stuff. Nice and Clean, like it should be. I dig the guit. tone, and the soloing.....very nice indeed. If i had to nitpick, I would agree w/ lt. Bob about the main guit. melody sounding a little stiff. .....and being a bass player, I sure would have liked to have heard a real slap player in there...... .....all nitpicks. Nice job man, G

Hi guys, thanks for the comments. In many ways I'm a victim of my classical guitar training, where you are supposed to play each note as written (I read this tune out of the New Real Book). If you are doing Bach or whatever, interpretive "feel" just ain't allowed.I should give myself permission to play with the melody more.I certainly don't feel constrained when I improvise solos.Others have said the same thing to me,so watch out for the next tune and see if I don't loosen up a bit.
