p.s. I like all your songs btw (scottish accent is my only slight gripe)

If i get the time I'll retune my vocal take up an octave and run it through a distortion pedal... don't worry you won't even make out an accent after that!

hmm, sounds familiar - but that would be a stupid idea and make the song a joke surely?

I agree with you Stavencrows. It is over compressed at the cost of you losing some dynamics. It's not a bad job but I wouldn't call it good either, louder yes, but not good.

i think he means he's going to try to make his voice sound like the elf singing into the amp he was talking about. :p

...could you just give me a pointer on how to fix those phase shift issues?)
It sounds like something in the original mix - However, it was really brought out in front during the mastering (instead of being tucked away).

It's an unusual snare sound - It's a little "twisted" - The more I listen to it, I'm starting to agree with your first gut feeling... The shift in the snare is really in your face - Maybe M/S processing gone out of control... It's sort of over my left shoulder...

Suck? No, I guess not. Smashed? Perhaps... I prefer the non-mastered version over the mastered version. I think the direction is what going in was there, it just went too far (IMHO, YMMV, etc., etc.).

Of course, some of this could be the MP3 encoding also...

I liked the mastered one better, but it does sound like you could have the mastering enginner back off the gain a bit.

First of all WOW. This is the weirdest shit I've ever heard! But, I can't seem to turn it off!!! It's got a creepy, crazyness to it. I like the mastered better. Damn that gave me a weird feeling as well. Like I was walking in some crazy forest of nothing trippin on acid. I have to say good job on this. Very original.

Maybe next time you should tell him how you would like to have things done.
Your the artist.

Good luck with everything.

it's really funny the different opinons with this song from good to bad - thanks for that though, I'm glad you enjoyed it - your description is well put.

the whole point was that the chorus hurt your ears a bit when it kicked in, and I find the mastering does the opposite - even subdued. I've decided to get it mastered with a few different people um...do you do internationals?

actually - I waited and listened to it again and no, I'm right - the volume should not drop that much at the chorus. Thanks for your comments but there is something very wrong here.

I liked the mastered version better not to say that it was the ideal mastering job, just I prefered it to the unmastered mix is all. I was diggin that tune and I usually hate moody electronic stuff. Do you have a webpage or some more tunes available for download?

thanks - ironically I also hate electronic stuff but have no option right now (actually I'm creating a band on the side soon enough). Still, got another tune up there at www.stavencrown.com - although it's not the best of my stuff it's as moody as the other one.

p.s you don't need to join the mailing list to listen to it

oh and I'm killing this thread now so those links won't work anymore - thanks for all the comments (good and bad), I still think that master sucks - elf or no elf.
