This is terrible...need major help

Ok I am recording with an SM57 mic to my cab which i have to say sounds great in person. How can this recorded guitar sound so bad. Am I not mixing it right or is my sound card really shitty or do i need to mic it a different way? Listen to this and please help me out with some tips if you could. (BTW: There is no sound in the first 30 seconds of the song.) thanks
