I KNOW! I was watching that one yesterday!
All the way up to 10 minutes before the end of the auction it was $370 with like 20 bids!
I was curious what it was going to go for. I had just bought one for $1100 with shipping.
Man that dude got a serious good deal... It had a meter bridge and everything. Those alone cant be bought for $300-400 used.

I like mine. I was going to buy it and resell if it was going to go for under $400!

Tom

And I missed it at $585...

:(

Should have bid more.

Man you were close...:)

Confession: I'm the lucky bastard who won it. I'm a bit embarassed about even bidding much less winding since I have that exact board already in my studio. I just couldn't handle seeing that low a price on such a great board I guess... I may have an addiction to ebay come to think of it:rolleyes:

Nate,
That was my exact thought!
I really like mine. It has been modded to operate at +4 (except the meter bridge...errrghhhh) so it works well with all my interfaces.

I was hurting to see it go so cheap, I figured I'd get it and maybe start a remote recording rig with it.

Great score Nate!

I still need to do the mod on mine. I run an Alesis HD24XR so the noise floor is low enough I've been able to get by with the -10db board, though I really have to push the faders pretty much all the way up!:)

I think I'll mod the new board then swap it out with the existing board. I may modify the other one or may be just pack it away for spare parts. I've never had any repair needs on my current Topaz so I don't know if spare parts are hard to find or not.

BTW, TMIX I used your suggestion on returning some reverb to an seperate channel for my headphone mix. Worked well, once I figured out I needed to be using AUX2 on my headphone mix rather than AUX1...

Nate,
I am still learning what and what not to do with the board.

if you figure out something neat about the board post it, it may be just what someone needs.... like me!

I am looking at moving from in the box mixing with my Mackie Onyx to actual console mixing, hopefully with a Soundtracs Topaz. If you decide to sell the other one in the future, hit me up for first dibs.

Out of curiousity, what was your high bid? You can pm me if you like, or post here. I just want to know what I'm up against in the future.:D

PM sent.

I've seen this board go for over 1k and saw one in bad shape go for just under $450 about 8 months ago. I shake my head when I see a Mackie 24:8 fetch 1.5k...

It is definitely the most feature-rich board south of a grand.

And Harvey has one, so it has to be good.:D

Agreed. I started on a 1604-VLZ with a Tascam 38 8-track real to real so my expectations weren't the highest when it came to features. Typical setup where I used 1-8 for the inputs and 9-16 to monitor.

When I stepped up to 24 tracks it was a whole new world. I was familiar with Mackie so I just got a 24:8 before really understanding much. Thanks to info I got here, I traded up to the Topaz. Funny thing was I sold the Mackie for about $200 more than I paid for the Topaz.

I need to force myself to keep learning it though. I sort of have "my" way of doing things and unless someone I'm recording asks for something unexpected, I haven't really forced myself to expand my understanding.

Hey nate, I am leaving for LA in just a few minutes. I may have time to swing by and show you some things concerning your Topaz if you want. This one is a short trip though so I am not sure. I have to be at El Capitain at around 2:00 in the afternoon to start load in for the Jimmy Kimmel show, but I may have time either before or after the show. I will PM you my phone number if you want. If I don't hear from you, try and watch the Jimmy Kimmel show tomorrow night for one of the artists that I work for (Kalai, July 19th).
