One of the best songs ever and this version is perfect, musically and vocally.

Ah, Leonard Cohen WROTE it.
John Cale seems to have added or resurrected an extra verse or two & made it very popular through his live album Fragements of a Rainy Season & then his version was picked up for the 1st Shrek soundtrack, (notable only for the recordings being cover versions), some considerable time later. In between those two Jeff Buckley made a very popular version.
This is a very nice rendition but it doesn't add interpretation, development, variation or elaboration when compared to the original.
I like her voice - expressive, warm, and attractive but I think it would have worked better with the spare arrangement not unlikr that Cale used (just piano triads). Perhaps classical guitar or something else that would play the ostinato well.
Interpretations of this tend to be histrionic (Il Divo) or over angsty.
Sorry Dusen & Gerry, being long, long time fan of Cohen & Cale I have to offer that it's a lovely song but needs a radical reinterpretation to come out from under Lennie & John.

Awesome song...and the lady does it complete justice...excellent job!

Hey Ray! You make a good point of wanting to hear something different. I'm the exact opposite with this song. I guess I'm looking to hear something as close to the Shrek version as possible, and I think this one meets those requirements...it's my favorite version.

Check out KD Langs version from the 2010 Winter Olympics...

I've only heard the Kate somebody and Jeff Buckely...and I didn't care for either one...I suppose that's why this version struck me as it did? She seems to sing with a lot more heart and passion than the other two.

I'll have to check out the others y'all are talking about...I'm sure K.D. Lang takes it to another level...that chick's got a powerhouse voice.

that's for John Cale - a video taken from the concert tour from which the Live '92 CD was garnered.

Buckley's angst ridden version (not Nickleback faux angst but pushing the limits none the less).

Lots of variety there. Bridget says this is to be our song when we renew our vows

KD Lang hands down...next in line, the gal from Slovakia...the rest of 'em suck, including Sheryl Crow...

KD does it really well... no doubt... but the jeff buckley version is my personal favorite.

yea... it's a leonard cohen song... (not originally by shrek).

she sings this well though... it's just such a good song and so fun to cover.
