Well, I heard something today. I heard that if I got an M-Audio Delto 1010LT that I could use the XLRs on it to connect to the main outs off a Behringer UB2442FX you'd get the same result as a firewire mixer, in the sense that all of the tracks would be sent as individuals. Is this true? I was just wondering and I wasn't really sure if he was right or wrong, so I said I'd check up on it.

Do you think this combo would be worth getting over a Phonic Helix Board 18 Firewire? They're pretty similar in price when it all comes down, but would it be anywhere close to the quality you'd get from the Phonic?

That is 100% bullshit. XLR's are never more than one channel (even when they are AES) so two XLRs alway equal 2 channels (left and right usually). If you want to record tracks individually, then you either have direct outs (digital or analog) or are tapping each channels insert plug

Well, the UB2442FX has a 1/4" direct out for every channel, and the 1010LT has a lot of direct ins, so what about that? Would I need some adapters for the 1/4" cords to go to the 1010LT in cords?

Yep. That would work. You would need RCA-1/4" adapters. That mixer has direct outs on the 8 mono channels only so make sure that the 1010 has 8 unbalanced connectors available

AES/EBU is a 2 channel digital protocol over XLR.

EDIT: This may be a really stupid question, but I really don't have a clue what the answer is. Well, the UB2442FX and the XENYX 2442FX both have 10 XLR inputs, but only 8 direct outputs. Does that mean you can't use 2 of the inputs?...or does the 8 still allow you to transfer 10 tracks at a time.

So a mixer with 10 XLR inputs, in which I intend to use all 10 and want indiv. tracks for all, is useless for when connecting to a 1010LT?

Maybe I should just get the Phonic and come to the extra-two-XLR-road when I come to it by getting a seperate preamp.

Well, the Xenyx 2222FX doesn't look that bad, it looks like a decent-sized step up from the UB2222FX. How about the Phonic Helix 18 VS. the Xenyx 2222FX + 1010LT?

That mixer has assignable group outputs so you can route any track to the group out pairs (1-2, 3-4). So what you can do is simply pan the 9 and 10 tracks hard right and hard left so their outputs will go to the group outs 1 and 2. Panning right and left will make only the respective channel come out of the outputs 1 or 2 output so effectively you will gain 4 more outs (if you dont pan, they will be mixed since the group outs are stereo pairs). Its worth noting also that those outputs will be post fader so any EQ or sends will be included

If I were you I'd spend a little more time reading up on HOW to use a mixer before I bought one. I'm not trying to say you're too stupid to figure it out but If you get one now by the time you figure out what you REALLY want in a mixer you might regret your purchase. Study hard... read up... come back with a little more info.

You know, that's actually a really good idea. So I guess I'll compare what everything (Phonic, Alesis, and Behringer+1010LT) has and see which features I'd like more than the others. I think that the Phonic is what I'm liking right now, but I like a lot of the things on the Behringer too...I'll have to look more in depth I guess.
