 That is really cool! I run Tascam MSR-16 1/2" w/Tascam M-2600mkII. I would like to have that as a part of my collection. :D

That's from an era when recording 8 tracks was a really...

BIG deal!.................

I am still very new to the analog side(PT user). I got my hands on That MSR-16 now I'm on a new path for recording. Your Tascam 70 is vintage! Awsome cond. What about the history of that machine? Enquiring Minds Wanna Know! :D

It's not mine, but...

it's up on eBay, if you really want it!!

;)

hey dave...

do you think that headstack would be compatible with a 38 ?

oh...

i didn't know...

it *looks* like it would go...

Y'know,... I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they'd be 1:1 compatible.

You're always welcome to try!

A big part of the Series 30 hype was it's "newly redesigned" head, that set it apart from the Series 70. They maybe compatible to a certain degree, but it's not a sure thing. I kinda doubt it, but my Series 70 knowledge is limited.

I think the heads might be mechanically compatible, although the structure is definitely different, and probably inferior to the 38/TSR heads. I can definitely grok the improvement to the erase head for one.
If the question was "should I buy this museum piece and put its heads in my nice new recorder" the answer is "****, no!"

actually..

there is a 1/2" 4 track series 70 out there, and I was thinking about putting the heads on a 34 and using the motor and guides out of a 38.... to make a "new" 1/2" 4 track....

Ah. That might work. Even if the fittings are different you could probably get someone to mod them for you. I'm not sure, but I think all the '30s have the same motors. Reminds me of my evil plan to make a 1/2" model 32..

yes, the same concept....but finding heads is the tough part...and yeah you could mod it if you want to mess with azimuth and all that stuff all hard-core...but if you could get a headstack that just fits....that would be the bomb.

I've never seen a bigger pro-sumer tape machine! holy crap!

The cables in the back just make it look like you're fixing to do something REALLY IMPORTANT!!!
