I made a search and there's been alot of posts here mentioning Ashdown.
Googling talkbass.com revealed lots of topics too, there are plenty reviews at Harmony-central.
ALL these are controversial regarding tone and especially durability!..
Some rate'em to equal Mesa and other brands, some call them crap.
Seems that the service has differences between U.S and U.K.
Some say it's got a nice tubey sound 'cause the pre-tube, and warm fat sound, others call them "honky"..
Some manufacturing issues are evident, some say they're tanks.
AAAAAAARRRGGGHHH!!!!
My Laney combo has blown to atoms, no musicstores close --> I'm ordering a rig from thomann.de.
Ashdown MAG 300H Bass Head, 300 +
Ashdown MAG410T Bass Box, 4 x 10" + tweeter, 450Watt@ 8Ohm
OR
Ashdown ABM500 EVO Bass Top Teil, 575 Watt an 4Ohm +
Ashdown MAG 810 Deep Bass Box, 8x10" Blueline Speaker & 1"Tweeter, 800 Watt/4Ohm
First is some 700 euros, other 1500..
Now, do I throw the 700euros to 300W-perhaps 150W due to Ohms, risk it to be small but save some cash. Or REALLY go out on a rim financially and get a wattage for a lifetime, outdoor gigs with no PA, rehealsals, indoor gigs etc...
I want a cab+head, no combo. Obviously don't wanna spend 1500 on CRAP.. hence the homework on reading, but to no avail. Even if the VU meter breaks I'll be pissed... and then there is the tube to worry about.
..But if I'd get it, 'nuff power and it'd look cool as hell!
Playing a fernandez jazz-bass and a Peavey ntb-5 I should get a variety of sounds?.. aawwwhh the questions..
This is becoming a rant.
