this is the first song I've recorded for another band. that being said... the tracking is final, and the songs are what they are, but how might I improve the mix?

they want the vocals buried pretty well, but I know with your advice I should be able to improve this mix ten fold.

oh great, now it posts it, after three other attempts - now everyone thinks I'm a douche for saying fucking in a post

Not at all sir. We thought you were a douche long before this post. :D :D :D
I'll check your tune out now.

First, in very humble opinion, the drum overheads are panned hard left and right and for me it makes the kit sound 15' wide. PERSONALLY, I'd like 'em pulled in a bit more. Very minor bitch and really a matter of taste. I like the tone of the guitars at the beginning. I can hear everything I'd like to hear in good proportion. The bass may be a little to round for this kind of tune. It could use a LITTLE more definition. Again, a very minor bitch. Overall, it ain't bad.

Nice thread title ;)
Cool sounding guitar tones. I like the little bends in there. Overall cool guitar work.
The vocals remind me of Modest Mouse. Although the vocals sound a bit distorted/clipping. You might want to lower the overall levels a bit.
Overall cool song, I feel a lot of energy happening with this track. Nice work throughout ;)

Nice song. I agree that some parts are clipping, or something. Seems maybe that the whole mix might be a bit too loud. Maybe you could try re-mixing it, and drop all the tracks volume a few db's?
Very good song though.

Yeah, sounds pretty good, there is a lot of high end on everything, I would maybe work on that a little bit. Everything sounds kinda harsh and brittle, but not by a lot. Also, as mentioned already, bring in the drum pans. I feel like I'm the one playing the kit when I listen to the song and I would rather hear a more focused, less spread out sound while listening to a song, but thats just me!

I'll bring in the drums definitely, nothing is officially "clipping"... their instruments mostly just sounded that way - harsh... they wanted it that way. I'll try to smooth it out a little bit. Thanks guys, anything else?

OMG DUDE!!
You are such a .....

Good job.
I agree with TR.
Overheads are panned a tad too hard IMO.

Holly CRAP!

I was thinking to my self as I listened to the beginning of your song...

'man this thing is boring'

but once the vox kicked in... nice....

Sir,the song itself leaves much to be desired...
overall ,bland and insepid twink material best suited for teenage boys who are still not sure if they like girls or boys.
the engineering is a whole different kettle of fish.it is amateurism at it's worst.
take a course or 2,stop hanging around emo-rockers .
learn your craft.

Just as this kind of input is. Besides what is that boys/girls comment supposed to mean? There's a particular brand of boy rock that I wasn't aware of? I mean is Nickelback for girls or boys? Well they had a song in spiderman so they must be for boys! Wait what about that Britney Spears? She had a song called Toxic. Boys are more into that toxic and overall destructive stuff. That must be music for boys.

Your input on recording/mixing is what he was asked for. Which is what you gave in the end after a whole lot of garbage blabber.

What the heck?
-----------------------------------------------------------------

On topic. The song takes too long to start. If the the guitar was playing that same thing over and over but the rest of the band was building up into the song, that would be something else. As is, it sounds as if the same thing is played over and over without a point.

I thought the drummer was doing a good job. I could although do with a tad less cymbals and hihats (closed/open). Just a notch lower.

:) Good luck.

Pay no mind to the ****-troll.

Teddy teddy teddy.
I've said it before, 7string has said it, many have said it...

put up or shut up.

(Sorry grn... I like the song. Am I a douche for saying "****-troll"?)

EDIT~HINT~ It begins with "c" and ends with "t" and is part of the female anatomy....

Maam,
with a name such as "bigbubba",it would be in your best interest to never address me again.I will make short work of you...
Here at Mystery Records we embrace talent, the people involved in the mess that was submitted here for critique do not fall into that catergory,at all.
song=bad
engineering on song=worse

do you need a whole page or 2 to critique a mess like this?I don't!
Here at Mystery Records we don't mince our words or waste our time on things that are not going to generate sales, simple as that.

I like that there are lots of different parts to this song. I kind of goes on a journey. Very cool. I'm visualizing a 3-piece band with either the guit player or the bass player singing. Am I right?

I can see what others have said about the drum OH's being panned too wide. It also sounds like there is a lot of 'room' sound in the drums overall. How were the OH's placed?

Good job. Thanks for posting this.

But that's exactly what the person asked for. What they didn't ask for was for you to criticize a whole genre of music and insult it all the while insulting anyone who may listen to such music. At the same time you didn't spare young boys who may be interested in a given genre of music.

Your opinion is probably still welcome by the original author because they asked for it. As a matter of fact, I have also upload something and create a post in this forum. I wouldn't mind you going thru it and criticizing it. Butcher it and I don't mind as long as you tell what's wrong with it. I just didn't appreicate you insulting a whole bunch of people with blanket statements.

And, you have a problem with the name BigBubba? It's just a name. We all got to be called something. :)
