Thinking about getting CEP

Im thinking about getting it to mix my band's songs obviously. But i record on a Tascam 424MKIII which has a bulit in 6 channel mixer. So 2 questions. 1. Is it worth it to get Cool Edit Pro?
2. How do u hook up ur recorder into your cpu? what inputs do u need?

2. What's the output of the Tascam? Is it digital or analogue? Analogue: as long as your soundcard accepts the output from the Tascam, you should have no problem playing your stuff on the Tascam and recording it on your computer. You just have to find the cable that'll go from the Tascam to the soundcard. Digital: if the Tascam puts out digital, can't you just transfer the Tascam files to the computer via a USB port? Not too sure on that one as I haven't done it myself. If the Tascam puts out spdif and your soundcard accepts spdif, then it's like the first scenario, but with a different cable.
 
I could be wrong, but I don't think the RCA outputs are the really important thing. I think what you need to know is what kind of signal it puts out - analogue or digital? I don't know anything about Tascams. Does it have any kind of A/D converter on board? If not, then it's putting out analogue signal, right?

What kind of soundcard do you have? What kind of signals does it accept? Analogue? SPDIF?

Finally, there's the cabling involved. Your Tascam's got RCA outs. What kind of ins does the soundcard have?
