...happier than you.
Hey all... I'm gonna get a new system. I'm not too happy with my current system's performance in ProTools. This is what I'm looking at getting. I expect it to be extremely fast, yet silent. I did a butt-load of research on all this stuff, but let me know if anyone has any better suggestions for certain components. Thanks.

CPU: XP 3000+ (Barton Core)
Mobo: Asus A7N8X (nForce2)
RAM: (2) 256MB CorsairXMS CL2 DDR400 RAM
HDD1: WD 800JB 80GB 8MB Cache
HDD2: WD 800JB 80GB 8MB Cache
Video: Radeon 9700 Pro
DVD: Pioneer 106S
CD-RW: Lite-On 52X24X52X
Case: Koolance PC2-601BLW (Water Cooling Case)
PSU: Nexus NX-3000 (Super Quiet)

Nice system...
The only thing I would recommend is a better CDRW than lite-on
Perhaps a Yamaha or Plextor...that is if your going to write your own audio CD's.

I was originally gonna go for a different CD-RW, but then somebody told me to check out reviews on the Lite-Ons and I found articles like this one. And for 50 bucks.. geez... you can't beat the price. :p

Actually... I just found some reviews on this drive. Every review says that it returns the fastest write to date. But ends up that it's just a re-branded Lite-On.. which means I think I'm still better off going with the Lite-On.

That's one hell of a video card for a DAW. You could probably get by with a Matrox at half the price for good 2D.

edit:
Also I assume you have researched watercooling the Radeon with the koolance system? It will proably be louder than your cpu fan. Also, I see no mention of power supply. Some of the early water towers cooled the power supply as well, but some do not. The loudest part of my system is the psu.

edit2: doh, forget it

Did you mean, do I plan on cooling the Radeon with the Koolance. If that's what you meant, then yes... I do.

I'm going to start off by just using the CPU cooler that comes with it, then, as I see fit, I will cool anything else that makes too much noise (GPU, Northbridge, HDD, etc).

Also... this isn't just going to be a DAW. My current computer runs ProTools and a webserver and an FTP server and I use it for gaming... it's going to be an all-in-one box.
