I CAN SMELL EM!
In 1981 my father gave me his credit card number so I could mail order my first "real" guitar. After spending months looking in music stores and going through catalogs I finally figured out
which guitar I wanted…
It was a beautiful DC-200 Hawaiian Koa! I ordered it with all conceivable options available. Gold hardware, Pearl block inlays, ¼” thick ebony finger board… I went all out.
The guitar cost me back then $1,200. I was working part time in a boat factory here in Florida in order to pay for it.. (I was 16)
I’ll never forget the day I received it. The UPS guy walked up and I ran towards the door nearly tackling my mom on the way there. I opened the box,, the case,,, then I saw it! Man it was
beautiful!!!! I picked it up and it played even better than it looked. I was in love…..
Needless to say that throughout the years I’ve owned a lot of guitars. Everything from Les Pauls to Strats, But none of them ever came close to my Carvin. It was the guitar that I would tell everyone “hell, I’ll never get rid of this guitar”.
Yesterday, it was stolen…..
From my church of all places!
One of the workers let in some guy that said he wanted to pray and the bastard ran out with my Carvin. I got the call at 9:00 PM…. Man I’m so damn pissed and upset… I usually play my Strat at church but it just so happens that I was changing the strings.
The guitar has been with me for 21 years. The instrument can be replaced,.. But the memories, the good times (and bad times) I had with it cannot.
Sorry for the rant guys, but this was the only place that I knew there would be people that would understand.
Peace
