are Remo's Weather King Ambassador Coated Batter heads good for recording . according to musicians friend they are champs for studio recording.



is this true?
 
Yes they are. It's a medium weight head, so it's got good tone, and the coating helps control some of the overtones....they will have a little bit of a darker tone to them than a clear ambassador.... more of a "round" sound to them.

They are the most recorded heads in history and the most popular!
 
BUY THEM!!!!!!!!!!

They are the best drum head. They can be used for any style of music (not the extreme styles) and nice to tune.

Nice rich deep tone - if you imagine what your perfect drum sound would sound like... chances are you'd achive it with a coated Ambassador.

Yes, it's true. Long-lasting too!
Make sure the heads are seated properly when you first put them on. Sometimes they'll seem a little 'slappy' at first, but they get better after the break-in period.

I'd rather use Clear G2's. That's just me though. I'm also playing heavier music.
 
yeah im playing classic rock so i figured these would probably be best ..... i've always wanted some coated heads for toms. i think ill be satisfied

yeh ive heard many things about the buffalo drum outlet but i still havent gone there

i live about 15 minutes from buffalo

That's an opinion. There is no "best" drum head, per se. Yes, they are very good.....in fact, some of the best, but not "the best."

Believe it or not but Evans coated G2's are very nice for recording. But it's all a matter of what sound you want.
 
Yeh, your right.

I have Performance IIs, Ambasator clear and coated, Pinstripes, G1 clear and coated, g2 clear and coated... oh and Studio-X.

I swap in between all of these heads depending on the situation. But to be very general and if somebody is asking if they're good heads i think we can assume that up until now they've used stock heads and probably can't tune.

Confusing them explaining what each head sounds like and their applications. I figured that if he wanted to know more then he would have asked. Either way, you can't go wrong with coated ambassators...for whatever situation your in.
 
Sorry Nicktheman. Reading that back makes it sounds very offensive and patronising...I didnt mean it like that. But i know that i dont know anything about an oboe, and me asking as simple question, all i'd want is a simple answer.

But i'm sorry if i sounded rude in the post before, it wasn't intentional.
 
no its alright i understand what your saying. but i figured that for right now all im gonna get is the coated ambassadors . in the future i will most likly be purchasing other heads.

by the way what do you think of the aquarion studio rings ..... are they a good thing to have around?
 
Yo Nick,

I'm a recent convert from the studio rings. I found they dampened too much of the resonance but still left some unwanted overtones. Moon gel is my new best friend. I think you won't be disappointed with some well tuned drums and some moon gel to tame the ring. The good part about these is that you can position them exactly where you want and suppress very specific overtones.

I don't have to use anything to control overtones. I know how to tune my kit. :D
