hello
I am currently mixing down to my computer via the line input on my soundcard. The soundcard is a cheapy PCI 16 bit card that came with the computer. From there I'm buring CD's, MP3's...whatever...
Anyway, to the best of my understanding, I think ALL soundcards are going to degarde the sound quite a bit. IS there any better way to get the sound onto my hard drive? I don't see many solutions, and I don't want to spend $300 on a standalone cd burner.
Maybe a soundcard with digital ins would work better? I dunno...any suggestions welcoime.

Digital in will only help if your source material is digital or if you have a better external A/D converter than the one on your sound-card. I've done a lot of mixing the same way you described, and ended up with acceptatble sound. But if excellent sound could be obtained cheap, no one would be able to stay in business making the expensive stuff. Ya get what ya pay for (if yer lucky).
