I've yet to have any major issues with XP.

Do you not know Emagic has discontinued any further support for the PC platform?

what do you mean? I haven't seen anyone who doesn't complain about the lack of stability of any Windows OS. Sure, XP is a significant improvement in terms of stability compared to previous Win OS, but its still faaaaar from being a very stable system.

Your statement about the discontinuation of Emagic support is wrong. Emagic is still happily supporting all Windows users. They even still post new driver & patches on their web sites, etc. They stopped releasing new Win versions of their products, but that's all.

well supposedly the s/w has to be coding to take advantage of the G5 'special powers'...but right now no s/w is coded to take advantage of it...so that MAY be the reason the pc's are still faster....I.e more tracks and plugs

you migth be right. I have never personally tested OSX. I was referring to the claims that OSX is damn stable, which might be a stupid assumption.

I use winxp with dual athlon mp1900+

Samplitude 7 NEVER crashes...i can have 10 Ie 6.0 windows open, record a verse with input monitoring on while playing vice city and NO CRASH!...sh*t is amazing

while with sonar...if i open up my news group program instant crash if some audio tracks are running with plug-ins.(this only occurs with that news group program though...i can open I E 6 and it'll run fine...)

so stability has more to do with the s/w then the OS IMO and experience....

my school has just installed OSX in our graphic design department, "IE" now crashes all the time! However, I haven't had any problem with graphic applications yet.

I haven't sorted out exactly why -- but my system was unstable when I had HyperThreading enabled in the bios. In particular, Sonar would just stop responding to the Mackie Control after a while, and would have other strangeness. Once I disabled hyperthreading, the beast has been solid as a rock.

My typical song only has about 16 audio tracks or so -- so my system is loafing along with low CPU and disk usage -- I don't need to have the hyperthreading enabled.

This is total BS. I run both Win2K Pro and XP, both with audio, and neither crash. Ever.

I like OSX too, but don't try feeding us all this "stability issues" BS.

If anyone has a clue, they can certainly read and properly set up their box for audio.

http://www.musicxp.net , and the info you'll find browsing this and many other forums.

Other's experience spoken here and elsewhere is often a better source of learning about what works than reading a manual or manufacturer's website.

I don't know why you are getting rude here. If XP has never crashed, you are a lucky guy. I haven't met any XP user who's machine hasn't crashed once in a while. As I said, XP is rather stable, but Win products are all inherently un-stable. We have a dual-processor machine running Linux in our office. Despite about 5 people working on that machine, it had an up-time (= never re-booted) for 3 years. Now that's what I call a stable OS!

Anyway. I don't want to argue and I am out of this thread.

Mine's never crashed. Been running XP since it was released.

Worst that's happened to me is dropout from using too much crap and too many channels.

98se crashed all the time, though.

I have XP and it has crashed on me several times. Its still a nice improvement over previous OS's from gates et al.

Logic 6 Platinum on a G5 is an awesome setup. You can get great results from PC or Mac. It depends on what YOU put into it.

If you have a PC and its giving you trouble, there is a reason and with some diligence, it can be sorted out.

The one thing I have to give Mac owners is that they never seem to throw out there old systems -- they always find a use for them (just look around some studios) Now where is your old 286/486/PII/PII ??
