Unfortunately I'm in the UK, so it'll set me back a little more than that - which is why I'm now seriously thinking about the MR8-HD. Just trying to understand how to get data onto a PC...do I need to buy anything extra for my PC?

There's just so many options nowadays, and it's confusing. Each one is very workable. I know nothing about the MR8-HD, but I believe that getting files to PC is easy. It really has to be. But others who use that machine can say for sure. You may want to re-post as a new thread about the MR8-HD.

Obviously you'll need some PC software to mixdown your imported tracks, which you may already have.

Alex, in my understanding, the Fostex software simply allows for the transfer of files, it does NOT provide what you need to open the files.

It sounds like you need to be able to mix your stereo (instrument) pair with a vocal track (which can be mono or stereo). I believe MR8 HD could do this. You could then transfer the stereo mix to PC for burning to a CD.

If you want to mix on PC you'll need multitrack software. There is some free stuff out there which seems to work OK, like Krystal.

Good luck Orc

Cheers Orc, thanks for the help

Decisions decisions decisions...I'm really torn between the facility of the inbuilt CD burner on the VF160EX, and the attractive price of the MR8HD, given that recording-wise, it's also got all I really need...
