What is up!

I want to have access to other programs in Sonar from the Tools dropdown menu.
Is there a way to do this?
Do I need to put the program's .exe file in a certain Sonar directory?
I remeber that my wave editor from Creative Labs used to be listed in the Tools menu, (before I uninstalled my SoundBlaster Live card).
I have several other programs that would be really cool to access from that menu.

Any ideas?
Thanks for your help...

That's a damn good question A1... I just noticed that my copy of CoolEdit shows up in the menu and I didn't do anything to configure that. Maybe Sonar does a registry scan for audio applications.

So I just did a search in my registry for CoolEdit and in this key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Cakewalk Music Software\Tools Menu

... found the listing. Back up your registry and try hacking in more tools and see what happens!

this may help... dig this image which shows all the registry entries for CoolEdit on the CW Tools menu... it may help if you want to clone them for other programs.

Correct, but be sure to pick the proper key values, and entires, and the path to YOUR application. If you don't know these then, well, your where you are now!

Sonar goes out and find the editor, because I have Sound Forge install and it shows up in the Tool menu. That's plain english. It goes to registry to find the information.

Here is an email I got from Cakewalk on this question.
Great response time from Cakewalk! 1 Day!
There is a file attachment below that came with the email.

Cakewalk email:
The instructions below detail how to insert an application into the
Cakewalk Tools menu. Cool Edit is used as the example. For other
applications, simply replace Cool Edit with that Apps' name.

1) Copy the Blank Tools Menu Entry.reg to your Windows Desktop.

2) Choose Start | Run.

3) In the Open window, type REGEDIT, and click OK.

4) Click the Plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

5) Click the Plus sign next to Software.

6) Click the Plus sign next to Cakewalk Music Software.

7) Click the Plus sign next to Tools Menu.

8) Click once on the folder labeled Tools Menu so it is highlighted.

9) Choose Registry | Import Registry File.

10) Locate the Blank Tools Menu Entry.reg file on your Desktop and
double click it.

11) You'll now see a dialog box open that says Blank Tools Menu Entry
has been successfully entered in the Registry. Click OK.

12) Beneath the Tools Menu folder, you'll see Blank Tools Menu. Click
this once to highlight it.

13) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item
that says ExePath.

14) In the Value Data field, type the path to Cool Edit's .exe file.
You can find this by right clicking on the Cool Edit shortcut and
choosing Properties.

15) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item
that says MenuText.

16) In the Value Data field, type Cool Edit.

17) On the right hand side of the screen, double click on the item
that says Status Bar Text.

18) In the Value Data field, type Run Cool Edit.

19) Close the Registry Editor and restart your computer.

You should now have Cool Edit in your Cakewalk Tools menu.

Some advice our helpful friends at Cakewalk and A1 left out:

Back up your registry before doing this. If you don't you stand a good chance of corrupting your registry and hosing your system.

Backup by:

1) Starting 'regedit' from the Start\run menu as described above.

2) Select the 'File' menu, select 'Export' and save the .reg file to a safe place.

Be sure the registry view is completely collapsed and nothing is selected in the window to ensure you will backup the entire registry instead of a section.

Then, be very careful making these edits. There is no 'save' or 'cancel' option in RegEdit, every change you make is instantly registered and cannot be undone.

You are correct, Sir!

I was thinking the same thing when I read the Email myself,
but alas I too forgot to mention it.
Good call, heinz.

P.S. Hey heinz very cool web site with some nice artwork,
I listened to some of your songs too, very cool.
