We have 6 other songs than the 2 you listened to right now. We're trying to make a 10-11 song CD that we should be completely done with hopefully in the spring sometime. We can only post 2 or 3 at a time on nowhere radio for now--eventually we will have web site, maybe when we're done with this CD.

I don't know why that happened, but I will back and reencode the mp3's. They came out with those "artifacts' in the sound file. I actually did post a thread yesterday, but it seems to be dropping like a rock. I hope you guys get a website up soon, just something simple to host your mp3's for now would be good.

Its just an outstanding song, I really love everything about it.

I have one suggestion though, but thats only a suggestion.

How about adding a moog\or other classic synth solo at 2:07? :D

I think it would suit the song perfect :)

I just love the vocals you guys have - so melodic and the harmonies are fabulous. They stand out as well they should. That being said the instruments are hot as well - so original, punchy and rockin'. I always enjoy your tunes - well played/recorded every time. Just excellent guys!
 
I showed your tunes to a few musician friends of mine

and they were really impressed. Get moving on that CD so we can buy some. :D
 
Great mix so far man!!Everything seems to be in it's perfect spot--especially liked the bass.I love a boinky bass alright.The drums are also great as are the guitars--the only thing I would say is the rhythm guitar at the bridge could come up a bit ---I think someone already mentioned this--I would have to agree with them.Suggestion?--perhaps some leads between verses--this is just a suggestion--Otherwise fantastic work...

Well, actually, there's going to be a guitar solo played at that very spot sometime next week by a special guest (see above posts). It ain't done yet! We have something that could more or less pass for a classic synth, and Casey could do it, but I think we both want a guit solo there.

I'm really glad you dig this song, and that it's stuck in your mind. If for no other reason than payback for putting your 'Mr. Moonlight' song into my mind. And, damn it, it's still in there!!!!!

dolod44--about the guitar in the bridge, were you talking about the very, very quiet part in the middle, or the part just after when the song kicks back in again? The quiet section is going to be completely redone. Also, we were going to put little leads in most of those 'in between' spots, but we were diggin on what was happening with the rhythm guits there and we didn't want to put it in the backround in the whole song. Again, there's going to be a guit solo over one of them in the later half. I'm not opposed to putting something on another of them somewhere. We'll see. . . There's still work to do. I hear 3 or 4 things in the mix I want to slightly adjust, at least. We will post an updated version hopefully during the next week.

As far as CD's and websites: it's gonna take a while. It takes us a long time to get one song done. Though we're coming along, it is still a work in progress. We want to complete this one CD before we start with the website and whatnot.

Okay - it's finished. At least, I think all the tracks sit pretty well. Our freind Mark played the lead guitar on this.

Man, I SSSSOOOOO dig you tunes. The writing is AWESOME, and I truly mean that. The only thing I can add and I've been tipping the bottle, mind you, but I believe I had the same comment before, don't hate me, but it sounds overall too compressed. I want to tell you honestly what I hear...the mix, the writing, absolutely the best I have heard on this forum, and I am serious about that. Maybe it is just me, maybe it is the MP3 conversion, but the only reason I think it isn't the latter is because of the reference to other posts through my same shitty computer speakers, mind you, but in all honesty I don't think it is that. I tried to listen harder and I'm going to try again....it's not that you don't have the Diamond of the Bunch, and quite frankly I think you do, it's just there is this "muffled" for lack of a better term sound on both posts I hear. Compression is what is sounds like to me for these reasons....the drumkit is cool, and the cymbals sure will fade quicker when compressed to MP3 to post online, but they sound a little more pre MP3 compressed. I was trying to pinpoint the frequency that I hear is missing, and it is like I can hear the ultra high frequencies of the cymbals but they only come off as a muffled version of what they want to sound like. I'm not exactly sure how to describe it, and the frequency spectrum when I play you tunes reads pretty much flat as a board, but maybe that is what I am not hearing? I wish I was more of a Sound Engineer and could dial in quantitative language of what I am hearing, but all I can offer is what I've said. I absolutely love your writing, and it behooves me to say this in such and objective forum, but the lack of "out theredness" is the only thing I can even fathom to improve upon. Dude, you are good. Your are more than good and I'm sure you know in your heart of hearts the truth about the beautiful music you write and mix. Oh yeah, and long live natural women too ;) I think I've asked this before, but what is your recording chain btw?

Edit and btw again, been trying to get my wife to watch A Clockwork Orange...I named my first and only son from inspiration...Lil Alex. Dig your avatar, man.

I think it might be limiting you're hearing. I think it's happening in the "mastering" stage in Wavelab. We use a peak master - I think this is something we need to work at. Steve will chime in for sure.

Otherwise, the recording is pretty clean. We use Sonar. Vocals are untreated, I think. Kick is a D112 compressed a little on the way in with a JoeMeek TwinQ.

Snare I believe was a C1000 on the batter and a 57 on the resonant head. OH are SPB1 into an RNP. Toms are 57s, gated with plugins and into a MOTU 896 HD. The RNP and the JoeMeek use the 896 converters.

Vocals are an MXL V67g into the RNP. I think we used a 57 on a Fender Deville 2x12 for the rhythm and an MD421 for the lead.

The last verse needs some mixing still... it's breaking up a little.

Hey yo supa, as I told you before I love this stuff. I'm diggin' the solos a lot too. The only thing is they sound a little muffled to me. Especially the third one. They seem to have a lot of low/mid frequency and not much high at all. If it were me I'd have prolly pumped up the highs to make them sparkle and stand out a lil' more.

Just an extremely minor quibble, though. Y'all are some really talented song writers.
 
Dudes...you should have let us know you had re-done this. You really need to post this as a better MP3. I'd love to hear it at 320K. You have just so much sound happening, I think it would benefit. I hear some of the new guitar on it. I dig it. This is a killer tune. If you want space to post a higher bitrate, let me know. I would love to hear it that way.

This kills, excellent sounds/playing/songwriting! The additions you made are nice too, the lead work is very fitting.

I agree with some of the reviews above that this may be too hot. Starting at 1:37 and through the rest of the song my speakers start to distort a bit... like a noticable bit of a hiss/fuzz ontop of everything. GIVEN these aren't the top of the line speakers, but they don't do that with commercial songs. Also, as Dogman said, it may just be the mp3 coversion.

Thanks, everyone, for the nice songwriting comments. Creep and I try to put a lot into that aspect of what we do--mostly to make up for what we see as a lack of ability on our various instruments.

As far as compression goes, there is only the most miniscule amounts on the individual sonar tracks. A little on the kick. Some on the bass guit. Maybe some on one of the rhythm guits and on some of the leads. I think that's it--none on the overheads or snare or vocals.

I'm listening to the mp3 version we have on nowhere radio right now and that conversion sure has sucked a lot of the life out of the mix compared to when I listen to it on CD. And there's still that one really 'hot' spot in the last chorus that we have to deal with one way or another.

The last guitar solo is a weird backwards solo that really wasn't meant to be in the forefront of the mix. Putting reverb on it and then flipping it backwards took out a lot of the attack of the sound. I'm thinking of putting it through some kind of swirling/panning thingy or another, but I'm not sure. Also listening back now, the first two guitar solo parts seem panned too far out from the middle.

Dogman, we just did this last night and posted it right away. You'll get to hear it like it really should be at least by the time we're finished with the whole record. I'm not the mp3 guy, Supercreep handles that part. Don't know what to tell you about that. . .

The word "artist" is misused generally, referring to commercial performers of every type. But Supercreep and Incanus are artists in the true sense. I listen frequently to your music.

sile2001--it's still there. The title has changed. It is now called 'Shaking Hands'.

Tim--Jeez, I hardly know what to say. If you say we're artists than there must be something to it. We just do the best we can with what we have. But I don't know--I've heard some really, really great stuff in this clinic. The smartest musical thing I ever did was to latch on to Casey. Couldn't do any of this without him--and I'm not exactly sure why he puts up with me, but I'm happy.
