My daughter (Jaimee) wrote most of this. The recording's not done yet (like you have to imagine those empty spaces have electric fills in them, lol) but I'd thought I'd see if I could get any mix feedback.

jwoo10 on drums...he's my hero
Jaimee's playing the acoustics and singing...me on the rest.

Oh, one thing...I've been thinking about trying to mix real drums with fake SOUNDING drums, so if parts of it sound like a casio keyboard, I think I meant to do that, LOL. Thanks if you bother.

Cool song, love your daughters voice.
The mix sounds pretty good to me. The only thing I would take out are the parts that "sound like a casio keyboard" because I think it cheapens the mix. I also caught a timing issue here or there: for example, at the end when the acoustic guitar speeds up for a few measures.

Good mix though

Thanks for listening, Jimmie. You're right, of course, lol.

I should clear up that the timing issues aren't the drummer's fault...I need to slide some guitar parts around, hehehe.

I may ditch the fake sounding drum parts too...I think I need to live with the mix for a couple of days...then ditch it and start over, LOL.

Wow. What can I say? She can REALLY sing. This impresses me more than usual.

You can't mix, and this piece has the timing of a game of "duck, duck, goose" played on a subway falling down the side of a mountain.

Have I mentioned that I love you, Mike? hehehehe

Typing as I listen on PC speakers. Not sure I like the snare/stick sound toward the beginning of the song - kinda thin sounding JMHO. Nice sounds coming out of the right channel - a cool droning sound that carries the song along. Jamie's vocals are excellent, I continue to be impressed by them. You have a great mix going on here, nicely panned and balanced. The snare sounds better at the end of the song. Very nice.... :D

bigmahon - If you heard a hook, PLEASE tell me where it was :D - Thanks a lot for listening.

ido1957 - thanks a ton for listening. I'm struggling with HOW to do the drums...I think the parts that are supposed to sound fake either need to sound MORE fake (to make it obvous), or I need to ditch the idea and just stick with the rich sounds the drummer gave me. Thanks for listening.

the vocal recording actually calls attention to itself - not a characteristic of a good mix. it is at once woolly and sibilant.

I would add a frown curve to it, or remove the smile curve if it was added.

And it could just be my speakers.

everything else is good.

there was a wildcard in the song. Problem is it did not repeat so there was no climax/resolution.

This is an outstanding song. And fantastic performances all around.

Wow.

I love the drums. Really I can't think of anything at all to suggest. It's beautiful.

I agree.

Wow, my posts get less & less helpful every time. ;)

There are points in the mix where her voice gets lost, and is hard to hear what is being said. I am not sure why that is, but it lacks some clarity and volume at certain points. I agree some of the percussion sounds thin and tinny. I love the song and the voice, very nice!

Hey, thanks a lot for bringing this thread back from the dead. I wasn't going to post the updated mix, but since it's back...

My daughter's boyfriend is playing the ebow and electric fills...ugh, she's dating a musician. :D

Rick - I agree...the new mix may be better.

Inv. Enemies - you're nice...thanks

Supercreep - you're creepy. No, not really. I appreciate the feedback, and I'll pass it on to Jaimee.

Thanks again...not asking for anymore comments on the new mix, but if you have them...then thanks.

No I'm not.

:D

The changes to the mix are such an improvement. The drums have filled out & the vocals are much clearer now. I dig the ebow as well.

Ok, I still don't have any complaints.

I like this quite a bit. The vocals are truly inspiring, and the recording is nice all around. The song is very nice as well.

The only complaint I have is the lack of dynamics in the music. She's singing with such emotion and dynamics, but the music is pretty much plugging along the whole time at the same volume.

The quiet verse at the end was a nice relief, but then the music starts to build up, and nothing happens. It seems like those build ups should be occuring earlier in the song when she gets to the chorus.

Just my two cents.

Other than that, I really like it. Great job.

It's great to hear a song GROW before my very ears.
I LOVE the point at 2.58 where the 2nd voice comes in. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
The ebow works nicely but, me being old fashioned & as the ebow being the feature of the intro, I'd like to have heard it centre stage.
Cheers

this is a very good song. Very catchy, very emotional performance.

The voice is much better now. The upper end harmonic artifacts that were making it sound unnatural are pretty much gone.

now it sounds very juicy and rich.

Good Dads don't let their daughters date musicians...

the hook is every time she sings harmony, or maybe every time she sings period. The second mix lost the siblance. This one goes on my iPod. :)
