i really like the feel of an unfinished neck

im wondering if i sand the neck on my p-bass, just enough to take the finish off, if that will work. but will that make my neck slimmer? becuase i hate slim necks. feels like im playin a guitar, not bass.

so has anyone done this? or is it just a bad idea?

I like the feel of unfinished necks too, but the extra care involved can be a pain if you dont look at it as a labor of love. If you dont want the extra work check out what is used on some of the satin finish necks that are around. They have a nice feel too. Using fine steel wool works for taking off the finish, but remove the neck as it will make a lot of dust and metal fibers that you don't want getting in to anything like your pickups.

Theres not a lot of finish left on my P-bass neck...lots of sweat finish....of course its a 56.....worn well. The 65 has a bit more but not much.

steel wool works well as does a wet/dry emery cloth....neck off as was said.
