... well not quite. I obviously don't want to build my band up at all because:

a) We are very new.
b) We are amateur at recording.
c) Our vocalist can sing... It's just he fucks up the recordings.

So anyway, why am I here? Well we have just finished up mixing a "demo" just to show you guys (and the rest of world what our music is about).

It was done on our school laptops, so we lined out of the amps and into the microphone port. The drums are a machine. *-)

We recorded the vocals with a dynamic mic, and then put some effects on (too many in my opinion) to "improve" them.

On saying that, I really do think this is a listenable demo and just wondered what you thought we should change/keep for when we take 4 songs into the studio later this year and get them recorded properly.

The song should play automatically (Stay on the Stairs)

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,

Sammy, SN.

Slipper One,
Go to this site & listen - you can even download MP3s of the entire double LP.

It's an Australian band from the late 70's that your mob sound uncannily similar to.
IN terms or your demo - it's everything you say it is.
You ought not run an amp line out into your mic port. Skim around the threads on this forum & you'll get plenty of ideas to improve, at no cost, your recording technique.
But for a lo fi demo of your band keep on keeping on and stay on the stairs as the railings are dangerously slippery.
Cheers

Haha... That band do sound similar to us actually (or we sound similar to them) but I personally have never heard of them. They should go in our sounds like section though ;)

Anyway thanks for the response. Most appreciated :D

turn the bass down and the drums up and put a high pass filter o9n yer vocalist. The bass sounds really flabby, you wanna smack that with a compressor kinda hard if you want the british rock sound. Bit of reverb abuse on the vocals too, sounds out of place in the mix. I do like the guitars just cause the guy plays like Les Dawson played the piano :D

Listened to Ballad LIVE too...reminded me a bit of The Mob, equaly as ugly sounding/

Haha Ballad LIVE should sound worse :P We recorded four instruments with one microphone.

Thanks for the tips though. I thought the vocals sounded out of place in the mix too. Lots of reverb then? Ok. Thanks.

I'd work to get more accurate intonation in the vocal and guitars as they're flat a lot of the time. Rhythm is tight... except the guitar solos so get the guys to practice the hell out of those also. I'd also try to get more realistic drums, or a real drummer.

The sound quality of the demo is pretty nice.
