:WOW: this is why I dont want to use samples..LOL I'm lookin through BMI.(bored at work)..

I look up T.I. "What You Know" to see who are the writers on the song..and this is whats comes up..

im bored..so im lookin up songwriters..and realize that some of those that sample gotta pay aout a lot..just think if you have a 80/20 publishing deal..

That means you'll make pretty close to nothing right?
 
unless you start your own publishing company
or use royalty free samples
 
you can..but it isnt goin to make that big of a difference in this case..cause you still splitting with the other publishers...
 
Yeah, but if your using many songwriters and the stuff is expected to sell triple platinum... and your doing the cut with like The Game, Eminem, Dr Dre, Method Man, Ludacris or whatever, you might get a nice decent cut.
 
where can you find a whole list of royalty free samples? or is there not such a thing?
 
There is, but I can't think of it on the top of my head. There's a lot of those that you can buy in stores etc.

Most times when making deals for sample clearance it based on percentages... So if the ish dont sell it will be reflected in publishing and royality checks.... (3% of 0 is 0)

THere a certain vibe/ambience that a sample joint gives that cant be replicated by keyboards or live band... That sound will always be a part of hip hop.....
