The RAMIfications of a Patch of Ground.

Hi Folks,
Rami had generously offered to play on our most recent upload. To my mind & ears he's done a thoroughly fabulous job. Don't take my word for it though. Drop in & have a listen.
With a thoroughly pumped perc section I'm now congitating options for further instrumentation - if any.
Some textural keys have been suggested as has a 'cello line somewhere.
Have a listen & let me kow - OH, the vocals are up a bit though not yet even -I was so UP about the drums I couldn't wait to post the track update. I will apply the previous suggestions now that I have a solid foundation to build on.

Sonding pretty good man...Drums fit well with guitars and bass....all the music sits very even. Vocals might be a little quiet, but not too much. Give them a small boost, and see...I like em somewhat quiet in this tune, as it gives it a cool, droney feel.

Cool - this collab worked out really well. The drums are a nice touch and drive this tune along with the guitar and bass.

The vocals could come up a tad in spots as already mentioned.

This sounds really good - how did you mix this with your existing tracks?

Thanks for your efforts - I think your playing is great & am amazed at how well you dropped in on this one with a really propulsive, spot on drum track.

I'll work on levels today. As to the HOW I sent Rami a drum heavy MP3 - he recorded along side that & mixed his work to stereo then converted it & sent me a high res MP3 file which I imported before spening perhaps 1/2 hr nudging it into perfect synch. (It took that long because I'd not done that before & had to read from the Cakewalk 4 Dummies book as I did it). I was surprised by how easy it was - but a lot of that comes down to the quality of the imported performance - had it been someone who was not quite on the money it would have taken much more work. Thanks for your positive comments.

Cool - I have Cakewalk 9.0 but I use it for drums only. The bulk is done on ADAT for me. I have to get into that multi-track software some day....
Not sure if I said explicitly (so I will now ) that RAMI did a smashing job on the drum tracks.....

I've often wondered about your rig . ADAT - a very cool piece of equipment & awfully expensive for a very long time.
What else do you use in your chain?
I use my Yamaha MT100 4 track to do the basics, then upload that through an INCA 8 I/O break out box & card to Cakewalk 9.3. I'll be varying that soon as my wife bought me a Roland CDX-1 Disc Lab for my birthday. I'll have to work out how to incorporate that into the chain as I still want to retain the tape component.
I look forward to reading about the rest of your rig.

Love the intro man. I think the vocals in the chorus could probably come up a bit but the chorus sounds great the way it is, love the chord progressions in this. I always seem to love your guitar tone, mind if i ask mic/amp ? Drums sound great. And I think the way you use the flute in these songs is really great. Very cool song man.

Hi & thanks for the comments. When I recorded this to tape in 1986 I used my Bruno Royal Artist into an Ibanez Renometer using a flat line EQ but with the hi boost switch on. then into a marshall Superbass Mk II 100w head into an ETONE single 200W cone cabinet, I mic 'd it with a Realistic Omni dynamic using the built in preamp in the MT100 for boost. When uploading to computer I ran it the guitar signal through my old Yamaha FX500 solo acoustic setting to get a slight alteration & variation for the now stereo guitar track.
Probably just as important to the sound is the fact that the "chords" in the progression for everything except the chorus, (which is made up with just simple open chords), are actually just 2 notes as in 1st finger on Bottom E's G & 4th finger on A's D.
As you can tell - heritage equipment & remedial guitar skills but the result, as propelled by Rami's kit, is effective.
I'll work on the vocal levels - Terry does a nice job with the flute doesn't he!

I was the age you are now in the 70's & this was mostly recorded before you were born. You know the era when metal was REAL. When what is NOW called metal was called pop. Thank you for the well done though. I don't know the licencing laws in you area but aren't you underage to be drunk & in control of a keyboard?

I've listened to this three times and it sounds really good to my ears(especially the vocals.) I think it should stay stripped down period... All the tones are great and I hear no eq conflicts. A very nice listen!

Hey! Nice tune. I got a real CCR vibe off the guits on this. Now all you have to do is go get a Kustom Pillow Amp, and you've got it made.

Seriously, nice arrangement and I love the guit. tones. Kinda CCR meets Mark Knopfler....I dig. It's hard to critically listen to anything from the Soundclick streaming player...they compress the hell outta the material, but the vox are definately a bit low. I don't think you can add alot of keys or anything else with the guitars at the level they are in the mix....personally, I like the solid foundation those guits are providing and dont' think you need alot on top of them.

Bass is in the pocket and blends well with the very active guitar lines (no easy thing to accomplish...nice job). Other than the mix being a bit narrow, which could be Soundclick again, this is pretty solid.
Massage the vocal levels, decide if the guitar alone will do it for you. If it does, leave it alone. If you want more, you might have to pull the guitar back to add keys or something else.

And as usual, damn solid drum tracks, Rami.
