Nice!! Hey Middleman, is that one of the "original" series spirit consoles in your avatar? I bought the Spirit during it's first year of production......They were much nicer than the spirits to follow.

My little Soundcraft is old as the hills, as they say. Probably first run. I picked it up for $75 and it still gets some use. However I am working on a Seventh Circle setup for drums, 6 of the A12s, to replace the little beast which only sees drum duty.

Wow...some Jackass actually gave me neg rep for my Behringer post.....
And they didn't even sign it...which means they were serious....
And they don't even have the balls to post a reply in this thread to disagree with me in public so I can flame them in the open.....

AND THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHAT SARCASM IS.......

way to go...asstard...

Thats funny!! someone gave me a negative rep point for responding to YOUR behringer post..(with sarcasm)....And didn't even sign it...which means THEY were serious. If you were truly being sarcastic and were not the one who gave me the negative rep for responding to YOUR post, then I apologize and will give you a chocolate chip cookie :D

i'm new here and this would be my first post...

as mentioned earlier, the room will have a bigger impact on the sound than any gear you throw at it. i usually use a pretty dead space, but i've had certain people sing a vocal track in the bathroom or even the shower.

everything depends on the song and the singer. as for a chain, i usually start off with the following as a base. it doesn't always fit the bill though.

U87ai
Avalon 737
Distressor
192 I/O

that's right about 8500 or so.

on the flip, i've often skipped that chain and gone with a 57 or 421 into afirst generation 1604 with a dbx 166 or another older mid range compressor patched in and gotten a killer sound for those particular songs. that's probably a 1500 chain at the time. Now, probably $500 on ebay.

experimentation is everything. you can't go wrong buying quality top end used gear, trying it out and reselling what you don't like. It holds its value. If you're gonna lay out that kind of cash, might as well get what's going to shape your sound to your liking. Most of us don't know what that is until we hear it.

Good luck.
