I'm putting this thread here, because this catalog has plenty of guitars and basses in it.

Ok, I have purchased items from MF for years. It's an online site, so when I'm shopping for something, I look on their site. MF is well-aware that I have mastered this skill, lol.

They used to send out sort of a letter /brochure thing every once in awhile. Then the brochures began getting somewhat more involved and eventually started coming to me in basically the same shape and size of a TV Guide....(if anybody remembers those, lol).

Then it got physically bigger, and now...near the end of every month, I get the "Musician's Friend" Magazine, I guess? I mean, in the upper right hand corner, it actually says "May 2011 $5.95 U.S."

This is fucking ADVERTISING that I didn't ask for, and they're trying to act like it's some coveted piece of literature worth 6 bucks. It's glossy, it's bound, and this shit HAS to cost a fortune to produce...not to mention the trees that are used.

So this month's "Issue" has Brad Paisley on the cover and an interview with Alex Lifeson, lol.

Does anybody else get this "magazine?" Seems like a huge waste of money to me for a totally online site, but what do I know?

I would read it on the john.

They probably found making a "magazine" returned better results than a catalog.

Although if a music store where to make an extensive catalog that was mailed to your door most people in this forum would drool over it! It would be coveted by ALL!

Don't get me wrong...I read the thing from cover to cover, lol....

By making it a magazine instead of a catalog it gets handled and delivered differently than a catalog (which can be opted out of with the post office by going for 'no junk mail'.

They are not just an online store.Guitar Center, music 123, and several others are owned by the same group.

I get it ....... most times it inspires me to buy something ....... that's why they send it.
I bet everytime they send out a new issue there's a spike in orders.

I get MF and also American Musical Supply and also Music 123...., not to mention, I also get email specials from all...
...but I get most of my buying "inspiration" from hanging on eBay way too much! :D

When I was simply buying music/audio "stuff" to fill out my space...I purchased a lot from MF, but now days I buy more "surgically", only what I really need, so searching on eBay is the easiest/fastest way to see how prices are moving, and there's also plenty of really good used gear, which I have no problem buying from reputable sellers.

These days...the only thing I do with the "magazines" is rip off my address label and toss them in the recycle bin....just don't have time/interest to flip through them. I got enough audio trade rags for the John.... :)

I used to get MF and American Musical Supply mags in the mail. When i started ordering stuff online from them i stopped getting the mags.Guess they figure i got a computer now so why waste the money to mail the mags to me! I also moved but i stopped getting them before that.I kind of miss them.

Sweetwater does the same thing. Does anybody know anyone that actually PAID for one of those catlogs?

Chris,

I actually want to get that magazine now - if its free - do you know how I can sign up for it? Do they have a website or something?

i have a pile of sweetwater catelogues I read while bombing china...I have to say I enjoy them, and they do make me purchase things :)

The "you" was aimed at everyone that shops...not just *you*. :)

That's how Sweetwater and MF pay for the catalogs...from the money people spend shopping at their outlets.
I think they only put the price on the catalog to make people feel they are getting a sought-after magazine....for free. :D

Sweetwater has been sending me huge catalogs too.

maybe they put the $5.95 price you saw, for tax write off purposes?

good reading material for the throne.:p

as long as they dont charge me, I dont care if they put $10.95 on the fake cover.

I've never noticed a price printed on the cover, they send me 2 per month, they're both te same so I don't know why I get 2.
