I'm not exactly sure where the best place for this is on homerecording.com, since you don't have an industry section. This seemed the most appropriate.

I'm sure you're aware of many changes in the music industry in the last 10 years or so. Technology has increased. Music equipment has become cheaper. The internet and the MP3 format have made music more readily available and cheaper to distribute. Some of the things used to work in the industry aren't working, at least for major labels. More power has shifted to musicians and a DIY community.

I feel that if we don't take this advantage to discuss and make decisions about the music community, someone who is only concerned about money will. So I'm trying to organize some discussions on my website www.oursongs.org. It's not a scam, it's free, and there are no advertisements. I'm just an individual interested in helping the music industry develop more of a community and direction in this weird changing time, and feel that you guys at homerecording.com can offer a good DIY perspective.

I'm keeping discussions focused right now, and we're going to discuss some general topics about the past, present, and future of the music industry. Those discussions specifically are at www.oursongs.org/forum/114 . I appreciate any input you can give.

Thanks,
Justin (Sal)
