Hey folks, I'd be grateful for feedback on this: THE MIRROR LIES

It's a bit of a mish mash of styles - best way i can describe it is doom prog :p

Kind of a House of Holy vibe in there. Its interesting and engaging - I think you could level the vocals better and give them a little sonic space.

Thanks papante for the listen...I did previously have the vocals more upfront, but i struggled to get them balanced to the point they weren't overpowering the mix, so I buried them. Maybe I will go back and try to make them more upfront again. I don't have much experience in mixing vocals though so I'm still figuring it out

I. know what you mean - vocals - especially in this genrre of music - are very hard to place right.

Those vocals are buried for sure. If you want them that low, then you would have to scoop out everything else in that freq. range. When solo, the level is very nice.

Good mix, plays well on my system.

thanks @DM60 for the feedback..... The vocals are a little higher now in those first verses. does it seem as though they're clashing with the guitars? I have a sidechain triggering a reduction on the distorted guitars by about 3db on everything after 1khz. Still working on the vocals in the climax...they're a little trickier.

Not sure what you're going for, but the vocals are still low on that first part. I think it is a pure volume on the first part. but that low range might be getting clobbered with the bottom part of the guitar. When it hits that break, very nice level. I think that last part is having the same problem as the earlier problem. You fix one, you fix the other.

I do dig that verb/echo. That sounds really nice.

Thanks a lot, I'll have another go at carving out some space. That echo is colour copy by u-he. I always use it on vocals and solos.
