Hi all.

I'm planning on formatting my computer sometime soon and I'm thinking about upgrading my OS. I currently run Windows 98SE on a Pentium IV 1.5 Ghz with 256 Mb RAM and a SoundBlaster Audigy Platinum soundcard. My graphic card is a NVidia GeForce2 MX200.

Now, I was into music all the time since 2 years and didn't take the time to look at the new OSs' that were coming out.

Now I see all those new OSs' (by Microsoft of course):

- Windows Millenium (Windows ME?)
- Windows XP
- Windows 2000
- Windows .NET

I use CoolEdit Pro 2.0, Logic Audio Platinum 5.01, Reason 1.0.1 (Reason 2.0 drops in one week! Yay!), ReCycle 2.0 and Wabelab 4.

Now, which OS should I install? Which one is more stable?

Peace,
Beathoven

Linux is the most stable in my opinion

Oh, I'm ranting again, sorry. Silver

I would narrow it to 2000 and XP. ME is nothing than 98 with frills, and .net is not really there yet.

As for stability, both 2K and XP are fine. 2K already has a service pack. If you disable all ballast in XP like optical effects it is very close to 2K. XP has better compatibility with older soft I hear around me.

CEP under 2K is great unless you run a dual amd. So check out for each of your soft and check your hardware for drivers.

I have M E and it straight up sucks! I have to restart my computer in the middle of doing something almost every time I use it. My sister also has M E and she also has bookoo problems.

Please hear my words... Stay way from Windows M E

XP, no question. I'm getting 8ms latency in Reason 1.01 with the Delta 44 xp ASIO drivers, and stability is a non-issue with Sonar and CE2K. My 2cents, YMMV.

...without a doubt! I have yet to hear about an ME user that didn't hate it. You'd be better off with Windows 3.1 :D

I'm running 2K with no problems, but I'd be running XP if I had it. One thing though, I've been told that upgrades to XP suck, so if you're going that route (and I would), make sure you do a clean install.
