I am going to be outfiting a new studio soon and I am planning on using the D8B as the centerpiece for one of the rooms. But I know more about analog machines and stuff than digital.
If I have the digital 8 Bus mixer and I am using a Mac dual 1gHz G4 PowerMac running eMagic's Logic Audio Platinum v. 5... how should I get the digitl audio from the D8B into the Mac?
I have a lot of clients using Midi so I need the Midid functionality of Logic Audio, otherwise I would have just gotten the HDR2496. I had thought about using the SDR2496 for tracking, and then just dumping the recorded audio via USB into Logic for processing, editing, and burning... but I am beginning to think that this is a very expensive solution. With the SDR2496, I am having 3 computers (d8b PC unit, SDR2496, and the Mac) to do what I belive two should be able to do.
If I eliminate the SDR2496 from the picture however, I am faced with having to decide on a 3rd party company's audio system for getting the digital data into the Mac for editing. I have seen the MOTU 2408mkII. It has three banks of 8 channel TDIF which would lock up with my 3 DIO-8 cards coming with the d8b. But the MOTU costs $900 and I am basically using a surf board to kill a fly. I looked at M-Audio's TDIF cards. They are cheaper, but I would have to buy three of them (I think) and that would fill up every PCI slot in my Mac not to even mention the IRQ interupt headaches that I am sure would ensue.
I refuse to belive that my situation is unique. What have all of you guys done to get the digital audio coming from your d8b into a PC/Mac? Quality comes first, but price has to be reasonable.
Thanks a lot guys,
Mike
