My band wrote this song a couple weeks ago and we recorded it on Sunday. I started mixing the song and figured it would be good to get everyone's opinion before I went further (and potentially hosed the thing). I'm actually very happy with the recording. I recorded at low levels, took the time to get the mic placement right on the drums and guitar, and was generally a pain in the ass on getting everything just right. I've noticed that 20 extra minutes making sure I have the right mic in the right place saves HOURS of work later. This was only the second time I've recorded an acoustic guitar, so I don't feel like I have the feel for it yet, BUT I'm still happy with it. You know, until someone comes in and points something out that I didn't hear, and then it sucks
.
So far, I've adjusted levels, used parallel compression on the drums, added a snare trigger parallel to the original track, added some EQ to guitars, vocals, (little boost on the highs, if I remember correctly) and bass (Low pass). I added light compression and a limiter on the master track, just to bring the volume up for you all to hear.
So before I go any further, I wanted to know what you guys thought, what you would (or would not) do, or undo. This might be my best recording and I feel like their is a lot less to do with mixing, which is a good thing. I know it's far from perfect, but I feel like I've gone up a step, or two, with this one.
Thanks,
Dan
