I screwed up. I've been keeping my eyes open for a '70s Yamaha SG2000 and one came up on eBay. These things usually fetch better than $1500 depending on condition and this was a '78, all original w/no reserve. The auction ended after midnight and it had jumped from $500 to over $750 by 10:00 so I figured it would get up above my cutoff easily. I went to bed.

Fuckin' thing went for $867. AAAARRRGGHHHH!!!!!!

If one of you guys snagged it, good job ya' basterd. Teach me to give up early.

That's annoying when the auction ends late like that. Weekends are bad too cause everyone can (over) bid. And if you make your max bid too early it drives the price way up.

I have my favorite search on a 1974/1955 LP Special Edition. Damn things are always too expensive....

They didn't ask me, but I think they should consider changing the way bidding happens on eBay to be more like a live auction. In a live auction, each new high bid extends the time the auction goes on; if on eBay they extended the cutoff time by 5 minutes every time a new high bid came in and did away with all that reserve bidding stuff, it would get rid of all that sniping business and your bid would be your bid. It would be good for the sellers, and it would help prevent heart attacks among buyers, too.

I agree with the bid extending.

I set my stop watch and punch my max bid at 1 second remaining. Other wise you get snipped on the good stuff.

I still play, just recharging the batteries since I left the band in June. I still look for deals on gear. Picked up an Egnater 4X12 Tourmaster cab loaded with Greenbacks for $380 a week ago. Sounds smokin' with the Mark V pushin' it. The Yammy was something I've been lusting after for years. They don't come up very often and usually fetch top dollar. If you see one let me know.

Tough call. I have Vintage 30s in a 2X12 open back cab. They seem a bit brighter or more "present". The 4X12 is closed-back and seriously loud but it also sounds good dialed back. It sounds "older".

I don't really have the words, ears or experience to compare speaker types. Identical cabs would probably help but I'm not gonna start swapping 'em out to compare. I wanted one of each type for studio variety. I now have a 4X12, 4X10, 2X12 and 1X12 so I probably will stop there on cab collecting. I also have a couple cheap Rocktron 1X12s for either side of the stage in live mode. Call 'em guitar monitors.
