The Japanese Sound

Okay, we know what the "Austrian" sound is (kind of bright and neutral) and what the "German" sound is (coloured with more upfront mids). BUT... What's the "Japanese" sound?

In other words, what sonic qualities do you think the designers at Audio Technica and Sony (for example) are trying to build into their mics?

Neutral, realism. Sonic heaven. The Japanese mics are trying to be innovative and different. They never try to "compare' their sound to the U87.

Hats off to them. The comparison to the U87 that is used by all of the chinese mic freaks has gotten way old. It actually now makes me hate the real U87.

So, no cuts or boosts in any particular parts of the spectrum then? Sounds good.

Is this why people keep using the vaguely dismissive "Workmanlike" when talking about them?

from reviews I read abou tthe Sony C800(i think thats the name) there a hi freq bump. If anythign the Japanese sound is more 'modern'. Faster Sleuth very hi fi sounding.

Thats just a guess anyway
