hola one and all

thanks to a cash "windfall" due to a summer job im planning on setting up a little home recording studio. i'm interested in recording a bit of rock, punk and jazz for the record and so far i've came up with this setup.

-------------------

budget of around £400 ($750)

microphone - shure sm57/sm58 (cant decide on which, will mostly be used for vocals)

amp simulator - behringer v-amp 2/pro or pod 2.0 (pod xt would be too expensive)

mixer - Behringer UB1204FX-PRO

--------------------

at the moment i have a creative audigy as a sound card and am thinking of investing in one which would be ideal for recording. again my budget is limited to just over $100.

i'd appreciate any suggestions/modifications of the above setup.

Delta Audiophile 2496 - $90
Behringer v-Amp Pro - $200
Studio Projects C1 - $199
Delta dmp3 preamp - $135
RNC compressor - $175

or instead of getting the DMP3 and the RNC you can get the Joe Meek 3Q.....its only one channel but its a pretty nice preamp......and the compressor kicks ass.....will do great for vocals and bass.......

Do you already have a guitar amp? If so dump the Pod and buy more mics, or if you don't buy a real small amp.

I do not see a mic pre amp, in the set up unless its in your sound card which I am not familiar with.

thanks for all your replies guys.

gidge - i will be recording vocals, electric guitar, electric bass and possibly keyboard via a midi at some stage.

ronan - i have two amps at the moment a small Kustom 10 W practice amp along with a Laney Hardcore 120 W mxd. At the moment I don't have any pre-amps although I believe there are ones built into the mixer I was thinking of buying.

edit : i might get two SM57's instead of the pod and just mike my laney and invest in good cabling with the money i'll save. i dont know if i'll be able to afford an external pre amp (might just rely on the one in the mixer) i could then afford the delta 66 soundcard that i've been looking at.
