You know what I find slightly encouraging? The increasing large amount of major artists who are building their own studios and doing their own major label recording at home or studio

The Foo Fighters, Sheryl Crow, Duncan Sheik, Radiohead does some, I think, - Better Than Ezra, Lots of electonica (Moby) - it's getting to be a big list

They are doing it all out, though. I remember reading what Sheryl Crow wrote when she built her studio - It didn't save her any money - it cost as much as going to a major studio. Next time, it'll save a bunch of money.

Yo Ruebarb: ]We grow a lot of that in Michigan!!!:]

With the advancement in electronics, and we ain't seen nothing yet, home recordings will grow and grow. That's my prediction. Besides, it's so much fun to do something at home that is just as good as doing it outside. Kind of like Mom's roast beef and mashed potatoes; hard to find a restaurant that can beat Mom's cooking.

you can do anything if you have enpugh money. thats what it boils down to MONEY!!! pink floyd has a recording studio on a house boat. that would rule! if you got the dough you can do anything, anywhere, anytime.

yes... look at all of us. Each with our machines and songs and MP3s.. but I tell you there is something to be said for the non biased recording prowess of an outside engineer too.

Home recording is becoming increasingly popular becaues of the digital age.
Digital ADAT(just one example) is "just"(that word could start another argument, oh god) as good as 2 inch tape(older analoge recording media) and alot cheaper. Also as tecnology grows, equiptment gets better and cheaper, till it will one day be possible to own a professional recording studio at home.

omnipotent, I would say that ADAT is as good as 2" tape. Now if we are talking 1" tape or smaller, bring on the ADAT's please!

There is a very good reason why studio's have not turned in their Otari and Studer 2" machines yet for ADAT's. But the time is coming....yes indeed it is.... :)

In reply to the last two posts...
I am as bigger fan of Professionals doing final mastering as any. And i would also take an Adat before 2" tape anyday, even if i had an unlimited budget; not only because it can be easier to use but also because I think it has more potential. I also think hard disk recording has a long way to come, and can forsee the day when it is the standard for proffesional media.
In my post above i was trying to be objective.
