I've been piddling with this one for several months. I never thought I'd finish it because it's kinda far out of my comfort zone. It's almost reggae-like. I'm just trying to finish up all the crap I've started and just left sitting around.

It's an early one from The Clash.

Any mix/performance comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Greg :D

While I'm not familiar with the original, this sounds pretty good. My main comment would be that the bass drum seems a little too loud. What's your monitoring like?

Lol. Thanks. My monitoring is okay. I just posted it right after my first mixdown and my ears were screwy. :p

Anyway, there's an updated version with less kick in the original link.

That is pretty damn good Greg.

I can't remember this particular song, but am somewhat familiar with their stuff from this era, and this sounds pretty authentically Clashy. I'm guessing this is as close as you'll ever get to reggae if you can help it...

I was a bearded hippy looking fellow when thsi came out - I was smart enough to know that the class of 76- 81 were onto something though.
This is an excellent reading Greg.
You do rock reggae really well - don't start on Roxanne though please.
THe b/vox are spot on - always slightly odd to hear such in a punky reggae but the Clash always did little touches of strange.
Probably better recording quality than the original.
I gave up after shelling out for the triple LP Sandanista. The run up to & including London Calling was superb though.
Oh, mix wise - I'd stick with what you have, put on a Brigade Rosse T Shirt and stare down a few red necks.

Thanks a lot. Yeah this is a lot different from the up-tempo straight rock stuff I usually goof around with. ;)

Thanks Ray. The Clash has always been one of my favorite bands. I remember when I was in high-school I had a cheesy little punk cover band and we'd play obscure Clash tunes and people were like "yall suck, that aint the Sex Pistols". Lol. Sandanista was a good album, but not a good triple album. There was enough good stuff on there for one good full-length, but not 3. Thanks for listening. :)

Figures,
One of the rare times I can actually get away with listening to a tune at the office and I can't get it to play very long, comming out all choppy, must have a slow connection right now.

Kinda curious about it too, I don't know anything about The Clash
Other than that one they did that goes something like:
Sabrina don't like it......rock the cash box, rock the cash box.....

I'll have to stop back by later on.

Kick Ass!!

A lot better than the Clash City Rockers you did. Those uuuuuuuus' are spot on. Good job on that 'noodling' gtr in the middle. Oh and bass sound is really good. Pretty damn close to the original.

A lot better than a lot of cd material i know.

I think you mean Rock the Casbah :D

Thanks a lot man. This one's for Joe. RIP. :(

Good job as usual man :)
Great separation and the clarity sounds fantastic.

Out of curiosity, do you "master" the final stereo track or go with the mix and leave it at that ?
Other than editing the dead space or fading in/out of course.

LOL ! my little attempt at humor.

Those are the only words I can figure out in that song, does that mean that "Sabrina don't like it" is actually correct ?

Lol. No. It's "sharif". A sharif is like the boss of a group of raghead villagers.

Thank you.

After that clarification, the song makes sense to me now, I honestly had no idea before :o

Hey Greg, this is great. I don't know the original, but I can tell it's a Clash tune for sure. You probably adjusted the bass drum volume since the first few comments, because it's definitely not too loud...Might even be too low now, but remember who you're talking to here...:D

If I was to nit-pick, there's a slight click in the snare I'm not crazy about...Just slightly, but it seems that if you can narrow it down and just cut that frequency, it would be perfect (4k? 4.5k?). Everything else sounds great...I'm going to go Youtube the original and see if they do it as well as you. :D

Hey thanks a lot Rami. Yeah I fixed the kick already. So is the snare issue across the whole snare track, or is it just a few hits? I went wongo on a few snare whacks and left them just cuz I kinda liked the texture of a few off-sounding hits. I'll go back in tomorrow and check out how I have the snare EQ'd. Thanks again man. :)

Listening back, I notice it in the intro the most. Maybe it's the most sparse part of the tune, instrumentally??? It's really not bad. If I wasn't trying to find something, I probably wouldn't have noticed it.

Sounds great all around, really.

I think I know what you mean and I think I agree. I'm listening to it now for the first time in days. The snare crack maybe has a little too much sizzle. I'm gonna play with it a little. Thanks for the feedback. :)
