I'm building a massive drumset, with massive drums. for details, check out my thread, building my own slightly unusual drumset
The beast has begun its first stages - i just bought the 24" bass drum off ebay, which came with a free high hat stand so i got that too. Now i need to get mounts and go to home depot and get the materials for extra buff legs so i can make this into the largest floor tom the world has ever seen. You can see the drum here:

its a 'vintage' remo bass drum, like i said, 24".

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!! Good luck with finding the giant bass drum :-).

Just mount some floor tom legs on it.

Of course, it depends upon how much you want to put into it. The floor tom mounts will run you about $10 each, and a set of 3 legs is $15-$20.

The drummer from Jucifer has 2 26" Vistalites on their sides as floor toms. Not to say you shouldn't go ahead anyways...

haha ok. still, overall im thinking this is one of the biggest drumsets anyone has seen. i'm betting that drumset didnt have an 18" mounted tom and a 28" bass drum, did it?

will normal floor tom legs be strong enough for a 24" bass drum? I'm just not so sure how sturdy that'd be, but im sure you know more about it than i do.

Of course they will be, but you might want to put on 4, rather than 3 of them.

Here's a 28" Tama Superstar gong bassdrum that was used as a floor tom; it's mounted on a rack. made up of 2 "T legs" and the cross bar connecting the two legs is below the drum.

A friend of mine had it. It's not mine. I just had a picture of it, because it's such a rare piece.

I told you I knew a guy with a 6"x6" doubleheaded Superstar in his kit - he had a "Kiss-sized" drumkit. 6"-16" rack toms, 18" & 20" Floors, that 28" gong bassdrum mounted above the back of the 20" Floor, and a pair of 26" kicks.

Thats the most beautiful thing I have ever heard... ever...

I just received the 24" bass drum today - it sounds amazing. i cant beleive its going to be a floor tom.... this set is going to take up a whole 4th of my studio, at least. its massive.

oh yea, the bass drum has about 1.5 to 2 seconds of sustain, and has a really warm tone, and is really light for being a 24" bass drum (my friend's 22" is heavier). Any guess to how many plys the wood might be? 6? 8?
i like it.

I'm going to say it's an old Premier bassdrum - based solely on the look of the lugs.

The problem with guessing "plies", is that one companies plies might be thicker than another companies plies. You used to be able to buy some 3-ply drums that were over 1/2" thick.

So, there's no telling how many plies it is - unless you take a head off, and count them. Just look at the eade, you'll be able to see the individual plies where they meet, because it will look like the edge of a piece of plywood.

The band Akimbo ( http://www.myspace.com/akimbo ) has a drummer that uses a bigass drumset. At first I didn't notice it, but when I did it was awesome.

Here's a picture:

haha, thats pretty sweet - but theyre drums dont sound all too different than a normal drumset, just a little bit lower bass drum.

That's not a Remo Drum - as far as I know, Remo never made wood shelled drums. Remo drums are made out of an "engineered" material (Cardboard) They are kind of like a Carpet tube, or Pegboard material that is soaked in some kind of polymer and rolled really tight. Actually they sound pretty cool.
