Hey what's up? I'm really confused because I don't know which reason refills are the good ones. Now I usually look on http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/index.html to find good refill packages, but have strayed away since I bought a collection "Hit Zone 2" for $99. When I got it I was really dissapointed because it was mostly loops which I am not a big fan of. I was expecting actual individual sounds that I could load into the samplers, Malstrom, subtractor, and so forth. Now I know there are good refill packages out there but trial and error can get very expensive. So I'm hoping that you guys and gals can help me find the good ones with the quality sounds and minimal if any loops. I like big orchestrated stuff but also like synths and other crazy stuff also. I just need some deadly ammo to add to my already huge aresenal. Peace...

Sorry I posted this in another section with no response so I thought I would post it here...

If you do a search on Doru Malaia refills, his shit is good. I'm using the demo refills for his and I'm impressed. The Superdrums 8000 is a must. The best thing I could advise you on is to go to places that network to refill sites, download the demos, try them out and then buy the full refill piece by piece. I'm like you homie, if a refill has nothing but loops, it's probably not what I want.

Go to reasonstation.net first. You can then check out the different refills on propellerheads.se...just go to the sites of each different refill that you see and many of them will network together.

yeah, i'm almost in the same boat as you. i'm have like $500.00 invested in experimenting with sample discs only to be dissapointed by most. them shits either have loops that you are supposed to chop up or they have tracks with more than one instrument playing. i need my sounds on individual tracks! shit is crazy expensive for the little sounds you get off of most of them.

Yo Jug,

If you want individual instruments and all around good sounds, you may want to invest in soundfonts too for yout NN-XT in Reason. I've gotten some good sounds that I can't seem to find anywhere else for Reason like sitars, guitars, strings, drum sets, spanish sounds....list goes on.

cool! man i have never messed with soundfonts before lol. what are the steps to using soundfonts, do i have to convert them or does reason recognize them?

NN-XT recognizes them, no converting needed. Using soundfonts in NN-XT is just like using a refill in any of the modules. I didn't mess with soundfonts until about a year ago. I'm still learning on them, but ever since I realized that, it beefed up my beats quite a bit. I can integrate them with the refills I use for more of an effect or punch. You can check out sf2midi.com to find LOTS of them.
