In the future, people will laud the visionary work that Bob Rock did with the band Metallica.

Bob Rock will be elected "Supreme Ruler".

George Martin's name will be removed from EVERY textbook. The Beatles??? Who are they???

And yet, that band's engineering sounds better than I've heard from you!!!! :p ;)

(this isn't intended as an insult, but if you feel you can afford to laugh at their sound/material, the presumption is that you could do better than they -- and you're not quite there yet, I'm afraid!!!)

WO WO WO. Who said i was talking about the sound? I was talking about Jon Bovi Himself. The guy don't know what real rock is.

No offense, but this is a pretty silly poll.

Kind of like asking:

"Greatest rock singer/songwriter of all time?: John Lennon or Ronnie James Dio?" :D :D

Okay, how about best rock guitarist ever: Jimi Hendrix or Sammy Hagar?

I just wanted to know which producer was most linked by the board. What i think is good, some might thing is bad.

Chessrock: What does it say about me that I prefer Dio to John Lennon...........

If I'm forced to listen to "Imagine" one more time, or hear that stupid story about JL's 'favorite cracked SM57'.

When the Beatles were all stoned making bizarre recordings with GM---I can deal with that stuff. Creative, interesting, etc...

But if John Lennon wasn't dead--I'd like to see him fight to the death with Bono--where the winner is also killed.

If I was dictator.

George Martin could've won on the strength of only one Beatles album...take your pick

Anyways lately I've been listening to Audioslave and the Red Hot Chili Pepper's latest and I'm still impressed with the number of artists Rubin has worked with and make good stuff.

Puulleeeze.....Do you really think that Bob Rock would consider himself on a level with Sir George?

Man, Rubin needs to get a hair cut and shave every now and then! :D :D :D

I think what is more amazing is how good the Audioslave record STILL sounds, after Rubin got involved. And while BSSM is an amazing album, the new Chilli Peppers stuff blows.

bob rock played guitar in the Payola's.

Nuff' Said.

the winner is obvious.

George Martin can give Bob lessons.

Though I'm a big fan of Bob Rock (except for St. Anger, WTF?) this is no contest. If you haven't read All You Need is Ears, go buy it now. Every engineer should read that at some point in his/her life. He goes into detail about his style, and how incredibly brilliant his techniques are. Just read about the making of "A Day in the Life." It'll blow your mind. Also, if you haven't seen his "Rythym of Life" series, try to catch it on the Ovation channel. Not only is he a brilliant producer, but he also has perfect pitch and has a greater understanding of music than most of us will ever know.

Sir George is one of a handful of people in the biz with whom I'd like to sit down and chat all day. He is brilliant, and a class act. I remember that he worked with Cheap Trick in the 70's, and while they were ok, imo, the fact that George couldn't turn whoever he produced into immortals like the Beatles, showed that all of the charges that the Beatles owed their status to Martin were absurd.

Bob who? Is this Kid's older bro?

 :D

I'm not gonna comment on the above cause I am not knowledged enough (except to say that I don't imagine Bob Rock to be really special) :D.

Ronnie Dio over John Lennon any day...

In the vein of metal, or more extreme death metal, I always looked forward to hearing stuff coming out of Morrisound Recording in FL...specifically produced by Scott Burns....over Bob Rock anyday :).
