The human ear is a well-rounded microphone, built tough!!
HAHA!

But if you had to choose a pair of microphones to replace your ears, what would you pick? And for what reason?

I guess condensers are out of the question. Supplying phantom power would be PITA.

SM58 might be nice. I could use my head as a hammer.

OTOH, -20dB pad would be very handy...

i wouldn't trade em for the world

can't beat em for sensitivity. apparently the ear drum can respond to movements smaller than the size of a hydrogen atom.

i just wish my noise floor was a bit lower... whenever it's silent when i go to bed, my ears hiss like ribbon mics...

i am fond of u47s, tlm170s, schoeps cmc64s/62s, dpa 4011s, and akg c480s and c12s. but all in all, i would rather have a great room to record in than the "best" mics. in a good room, i can make almost any decent mic do pretty well.
