Ahhh... sorry i kept getting a msg that the connection was reset, i thought it meant the reply hadn't gone through.

(is it possible to delete replys?)

Oh wait. I had a shitty little casio keyboard but it didn't sample. =(

I had the 61 key version of that when I was in high school/college.
I had fun with that thing. I use to make prank calls with it to my
friends in college. Um. long story. :)

I know of at least one tiny recording label dedicated to the thing, and the guy's looking for submissions for an all-SK1-produced compilation. Effects/distortions okay, but no sequencing samples of it!

On another note, some of the old Casio*tone* keyboards have some nice usable sounds. My band runs the "piano" (very high-electric piano-y, w/ sustain) through a a vintage 15W tube Silvertone amp to great effect. See mp3.com/brittlestars -> "falling backwards"

i wonder if you can sample that SK1's sounds and get some nice grungy sound?

Okay I shouldn't tell anyone this but the best cheapo little Casio is the CZ101. If anyone cares I can elaborate.

Hey Monty,

Is that the little hand-held one that played that monotonous tune on autoplay . . . you know, dum dum .. dum dum .. dum dum . . da da .. da da da da da da.
My little sister used to have one of those and I always wanted to hit her over the head with it.

I typed in a magnificent reply yesterday but for some reason it blew out, so here's another not so magnificent reply.
At first glance the CZ101 looks pretty much like the average mini keyed piece of junk. A look at the rear, however, will reveal midi in & out. Also the guts are the same as the full sized CZ1000. This allows the use of thousands of free downloadable sound files. With these files, midi, and parameter adjustments on the CZ101, you have a pretty useful little sound module for very cheap. I have three and paid from $3 to $10 each.

agreed on the cz-101 the thing rocks!! only problem is, people are catching on. they now go for $125-$175 on ebay. i got mine for $90 bucks and it's worth every penny. phase distortion synthesis (invented by casio) is pretty similar to subtractive analog synthesis and it's a great starter keyboard for soundtweakers. since i'm no piano player the mini keys aren't a problem and i love the size of the thing.

Just had to say this, but the greatest keyboard to me of all time was the classic
FENDER RHODES PIANO! Man such warmth and feel. Memories.........

thnmnt...I know what you mean. I find mine at local flea markets, yard sales, second hand stores. Like the one that sold me a Tascam Porta5 for $10.

hey mister...I'll take that there Bosendorfer...yep, that one... the 12 foot concert grand..
