The best drums you ever heard come off a radioshack accompaniment track. Actually the drums are total crap

I like one part about this song: THe "love me love me love me phrase in the chorus sounds very "in your face"

other than that, the mix is needing.

Specific questions.
I want it more open. Do you have any suggestions on eq?

2. How can I make the keyboard more present

3. How can I make the bass more round.
4. Should I add more highs to the vox?
5. Should I add more vox.

My neighbor, who I trust wants me to redo the verses. I think I will.

THe break in the middle is for a guitar solo.

:D you might have to listen twice and loud to pick out what I am saying.

How can I make it sound more like PARIS?

equipment:

lead vox: marshall v67g into the dmp2. (this is now my mic for lead vox. I simply love the warmth.

Backing vox: AKG c414b/uls into DMP2. I have not even used my joemeek since I got my dmp2.

instruments: roland jv010 sound module directly into logic

plugins used: waves ultramaximizer on drums(there is only one drum track)

Logic platinum verb on vox

Logic compressor on bass

Waves REQ 2. two band eq on drums
2 band eq on lead vox. -1.5 at 125 and +2 at 14k

Please comment.

thanks

Oh,

I wrote this song two days ago.

I can hear distortion on the backing vox. I am hoping it is the headphones and not the recording. I will go back home and check.

cool song, the only critisism i can make is watch those out of tune vocals. consider puting in some acoustic guitars to mix it up a little bit.

good job

thanks jager.

Its a good thing that you did not really find much to critisize. THanks.

I will go back and redo the off vocals and also the clipping parts.

peace

Hey Cyan

THESE ARE JUST MY OPINIONS!!

I actually like the drum groove..and the sounds themselves
are o k..but they are at the wrong levels..If you can record
the drums in a software sequencer like Cakewalk..and put
each element on its own track..you could have more power
over the mix..and even send it to different sounds modules
to get the sound you want...this would eliminate the need
for EQ....TRY TO FIND SOUNDS THAT ALREADY MEET YOUR NEEDS
AVOID EQ ...they have to be right for what you are trying to bring
together as a mix

The keys changed volume during the mix a couple of times
sorta all of sudden...the fills seemed o k..placement and the
way they were moving.....cool

The vocals as you have already stated need a Do over
just from a performance stand point...dont be afraid to triple
track the backing vocals..pan hard left ..hard right.and center
especially during the chorus...hell even quad them..just be
careful with the levels in the mix. Sonicly the lead vocal seemed
o k.....

When you refer to "in your face" I might be getting that
confused . I think of that as the vocal being real upfront in the mix..

Sometimes that is not a good thing...it works well for Ballads
but with what you have going on with the music...whereas it
looks like the mix is gonna be part of song..it might be better
as sorta being balanced with whats going....

I like the arrangement..and you actually have potential
as a singer.....keep it up..I have liked the songs youve done
thusfar....

Again, just my opinions..Im still a rookie :)

I think it's got potential. But man, the vocals were all over the place. I've got headphones on and I almost pissed my pants when you hooted. I think they're distorting in a few places too.

The nicest part of the mix in my opinion was the piano...it sounded very nice to me.

Good work, keep at it!

Slackmaster 2000

elbenj,

thanks for the expose. hmm. Something is wrong with the vocal performance. I can't quite put my hand on it. Maybe its cos there are so many things wrong with it.

As far as stacking vocals, I am on it. I'll try and get the effect that you got on your song. I will see what I can do about the drums. as I said, its an accompanimnent track hence I could only do one track . Usually I make the drums three or four tracks.

What levels are too loud. Is it the snare?. A friend complained about the snare.

Slackmaster, thanks for the listen and review. As far as that hoot, consider it GONE. I could not even hit it right anyhow.
Cool. My fave part of the mix is also the piano. I love the expression that comes in when it gets really loud.

I was messing with the reverb settings, and I think I want to pull the vox back a little bit, except that I tracked one inch from the mic and it is a little bit harder than I thought. Maybe I'll just have to use the lxp-1 instead of plugins

Ok,

I've been listening critically, and I have decided that

Nobody must post in this thread anymore!
Nobody must listen to the music!

I can't believe how lackluster it is.

THe space is virtually non-existent
The vocals are non-expressive.
the recording is non-professional(hunh?)

Andrea Bocelli will be dissapointed in this one

So don't listen anymore. I don't want this to taint your image of my music production

Wait for my next one. I'll spend more time on it and it will be GOOD. I also hope to have those ns10ms by then

peace and keep it up

Cyan

I've been trying to download this tune but it keeps stopping at 42 %. I think the problem's on my end. Gonna try again tomorrow

Ray J

ray j,

don't even bother about it. What you'll hear is some mushy, dead, nomix.

I thought I was sjoko2 or sonusman. Put up the mix after mixing for 1.5 hours.

I am not sjoko2 and I am not sonusman. I need about 48 hours to make a mix even listenable
