I got to throw this question out there on what is the best piece of 8-track recording equipment out there at the moment? The equipment needs to have its own hard-drive storgae area, very low noise characteristics, good editing software and most it must be easy to use.
Another cheaper option is to probably use a high-quality mixer and take a single output into the PC, i.e. hope you get your mixing levels right and record it on a PC as a single track (which obviously will not allow you bring up or down seperate channels once you have the single mix).
