I am about to help record a couple bands. I need a couple pointers and tips for recording drums, guitar and vocals. I have a very experienced background in recording with computers, yet I lack the latest knowledge in how to properly mic an amp and drums. I don't think I will have too much of a problem with vocals but all tips and suggestions are welcome.

p.s. equipment is not a problem. there is plenty of that
thanx,

it will take some time to go through, but it is well worth it. It is a long thread from teh mic forum that someone meticulously edited and compiled about micing various instruments: what kind of mic to use, where to place the mic etc plus general theory. It is one of the best resources on micing available anywhere, and it is FREE.

cool

thank you. These forums really pay off! That is the most helpful thing that I have found thus far!

Remember to get the sound you want to tape. Period.

Don't think "that could be a little punchier" and then record it in hopes of getting that later. Don't think 'that guitar could sound a bit fatter' and then hope to get it later. Get everything the first time.

That will make your mixing that much easier, and the mix that much better.
