THe Aardvark Q10 - Ya gotta love it!

Has anyone spotted the Aadrvark q10?

I have the Aardvark Direct Pro 24/96, but the Q10 is a great imporvement and at only around $100 more than the 24/96

IT has 8 XLR/1/4" Combo Jacks(twice that of the 24/96)Phantom power on first four channels, individual outs, S/PDIF, Word CLock, Midi IN/Out, Monitor outs, Headphone out with own volume adjustment(something I was looking for on the 24/96). And all of this is on the Breakout Box. Also has 4 inserts, for effects etc.

And it just looks cool too!

So for all lovers of aardvark, this is the one you've been waiting for.(Geez, I wish I was getting paid for this, hehehe)

doesnt record in 24/96 mode though. only up to 24/48. i'm holding out for the Q32 which is supposed to ship later this year, maybe early next year. it supposedly records up to 24/96. it's basically the Q10 with 8 extra line ins and some other features they are updating before the release.

the Q10 is list $999 and street $700. the 24/96 is list $699 and street $500.

i'm guessing the Q32 should be $900+(street).
 
i've got the direct pro 24/96 also and i love it. i found out right after i got it when i called tech support that they were coming out with the q10...and it disappointed me. now i have the option to buy another 24/96 and link them...or try to sell it and get the q10. (I record in 44khz anyway.) what do you think about that? is it better or worse to have two of the same exact soundcard installed on your system. does the q10 handle all 8 tracks being recorded at once as good as two 24/96's??

Hey getthis... Where did you see that you can't record at 24/96 with the Q10?

I haven't heard anything about that. I haven't looked, but I can't imagine it would not allow you to record at 96k. Are you saying the 96k converters are only for playback of material recorded w/ a different soundcard?

I have the Direct Pro LX6 and can record at 96k.

I know the DSP fx on my LX6 don't work at 96k...

I'm not saying you're wrong, just wondering where you saw or heard this, as it seems really strange. I can't believe they would allow 96k recording on their $350 package and not on their "studio nerve center" that runs twice the price.

Edit: Then again, I was just looking at the Q10 description on Aardvark's website, and they mention 24 bit converters, but nothing about 96k. Hhhhhmmmm... Maybe you're right. It's still weird.

Right - but you can still record at 96k... I am just wondering if that's true about the Q10 only recording at 48k - very lame if it is.
 
i don't find it to be that lame...seriously...i record at 44khz even though i can record at 96khz. i just like to keep it simple. some people say the quality sounds great at 96khz but when you dither back down to 44khz it gets worse. i dont know myself...i never really bothered to try. i just don't like the idea of all the extra hard drive space it takes up when recording at 96khz. 44khz is the standard to me...until i can burn a 96khz .wav file to a cd i will be recording in 44khz.

Silly people... the 24/96 and the Q10 will work together, for a total of 12 inputs, same as 2 24/96's. At least thats what thier tech support faq said.

go to the Q10 section and look at the sample rates.....32, 44.1, and 48 kHz.

yeah tubedude, they say you can even hook up any of their cards together as long as you have available PCI slots(max: 4 cards)

i was about to get a 24/96, and wait for the Q32 to come out and just add to it, but lately i've been thinking about the Q10(even without the 96kHz capability) and then putting the Q10 in another computer when i get the Q32(or whatever replacement they get this time around). i just need to decide and be done with it already.
 
oh they will work together? thats cool. i never bothered to look at their site since i got my card...im not planning on buying one any time soon. cause then i'll want to go out and buy more mics. that'll run into a lot of money!

that baby sure looks good. I have an information booklet, and it says it only goes to 48 khz.

But that should not stop anyone from getting this baby. Even PARIS only goes to 48 khz

I wonder how those preamps will sound though. If they sound great then the q10 will be the card to beat.
