I thought this would be a fun little project to close up the holidays.........Go and record a song in 1.5 hours.

It can be a song that is a cover, or one you have written in the past, or a fesh one that you write during that hour..

Rules:

Must be a new recording for this challenge, not some recording you did 5 years ago in 1.5 hours.....

You can utilize friends....Other studios, other musicians... whatever it takes.... as long as it is within the hour..

1.5 Hours tops, from the moment you first press record, to the moment your final mix is finished.. No Cheating and going back to fix mixes... We will never know, but the evil you have done will be burned in your brain for eternity..;)

(Burning the cd and changing into MP3 do not have to be done within this hour..)

(Mics can be set up before you start your clock..... I was thinking, setting up mics can take 1.5 hours alone, so we won't include that...)

Sounds must be fresh.... Which means you can't pull up any plug-in presets... You must do this from scratch.. I have some saved presets that I have made for my drums that sound pretty killer, ..I could make a pretty awesome drum sound in the time of about 5 minutes, and I would love to use them, but that takes the fun away from this challenge.. Must be fresh sounds..

There is no deadline.. Do your shit, and post it here.... We won't vote for the best or do any of that competition stuff, this is just for fun.....

FAQ:D
Why did I pick 1.5 Hours?.... Well it was originally 1 hour, but then I realized alot of us do the stuff on our own and it is impossible to record anything but total shit in one hour... I mean, you would be litterally, doing only one take per track, and running over to the next thing...........

1.5 is still tense, but a bit more user friendly... 1 hour to track..1/2 an hour to mix...

Good Luck..

Rock Out!!!!

I will post mine when I do it... today or tommorow.....

Sorry, too little time, too many rules. (no presets? PLEASE!)
Besides, just because you have the talent to multi-track anything in less than an hour doesn't mean anyone else can. :) I can't even load my samplers, init my template, adjust my mixer, find the frickin mic, clean up all the drinks from last night, etc, in less than an hour!! :)

You can use keyboard Presets, When I said no presets, I didn't mean the synth guys have to create sounds from scratch...LOL..... Just not Eq or Effects Presets.......

I know there are alot of "rules", but I made them so there is organization and fairness ..

It doesn't have to be a top 10 hit.. Just pump something out in 1.5 hours...

It's nothing to do with competing talent wise, I stated that in the post....

I am expecting, the one I do to be quite shitty..

I don't work well fast.... I work slow and precise usually (Or, I try to)...Throwing a tune together in 1.5 hours is definately not my strong area...

Like I said, it's just for fun;)

Joe

PS> Finding the Mic and Cleaning the studio can be done outside the 1.5 hour boundaries..;)

How do you prevent someone from cheating, and submitting something they actually spent 1.5 years on?

it's all about the honor system .. hehe

I've been goin through my songbooks trying to pick out a good ol' favourite to do.. but I don't think my guitar skills are up to this .. my hands are no longer living calouses.. so that just makes it that much harder to hop on the bandwagon.. I just simply don't have the instrumentation needed to do songs on my own. we'll see. maybe I'll crank somethng out.. it will be quickly done of course.. if I ever get this crap right.. damnit.. why can't I just go record someone else?

I recorded something this morning...
All improv....
Taylor 314CE direct through the Fishman...
2 tracks...one take each...
Bounced the rhythmn to a track and panned..
minor editing in Cool Edit....
used my own verb settings on the lead...
Took about an hour...tops..

I call it "Familiar"....it's at Soundclick....

the accomponiment tracks was improv, too? damn! very color my world-ish. Good tone for direct. How much is transducer and how much is internal mic? I might just have to upgrade to a fishman blender system now!

You can't "prevent" them, but you can just hope they wouldn't ruin the spirit of this fun challenge by cheating.

Joro.. That was fantastic!!!!!!!

I'm going to the studio @ 7 PM... I will have something posted later tonight...

I'm going to go for a full rock production, but I will warn you guys that it's gonna bite...:D

FWIW, Vox... this is a great idea. I may jump in on this one over the weekend, if I have some time....

1.5 hours to be exact. :p

WHAT A COOL IDEA!!!!

It's almost 5:00 CST. Crap...do we HAVE to use drums??? LOL.

Be back at 6:30...ish...:D

Yeah,, Do all you can.. Get some drums in there...Just personally speaking, I rather hear a crappy one with all the elements, then a great one that is just a keyboard with a piano sound (One track)....

But it's totally up to you guys to do your thang the way you want to.....

I say, throw everything in!...;)

I'm going to basically sit down and play the beat on my drums, and then hit the guitars...... Then Bass....... A bit of tamborine, and then Vocals..... (Only 2 :D)

I'm gonna try and do all that in an hour, they will all be basically 2-3rd takes.....Once I do 3 takes, I will pick the best of that particular instrument and move on...

Then half an hour for a mix..

A very cool idea! I'll do mine Sunday night. I'll get started at 11:00 (gotta watch Stargate ) and whatever I have at 1 1/2 hours is what I'll post.

EDIT: Hmmmmmmmmmm.....I suppose that means I can't use any drum beats that are already done even if I edit them. This has to be from scratch. Not a bad challenge.

Fun idea Vox!

My guitar slingin brother has moved back to town so we will jump on this over the weekend.

Great idea!;)

ok, I give up.. I'll do it anyway.. it's such a damn good opportunity to see how much mahem I can create with a guitar and a vox line or 2... hehe

joro........very nice man. I like the dynamics you used even though it is an acoustic piece. I can see this is gonna be an awesome thread if the rest of the stuff comes anywhere near to this.

Wow joro,
Thats pretty damn good for just one take a piece. I usually hit quite a few clinkers during my takes. Nicely done tune.
