That's not a kick drum!

Hey Dinty .... that is an impressive looking unit!
Have you heard one?

No, only the samples and vids on the site. I contacted them a few years back was about to buy the parts to make my own when low and behold we had the worst economic crash since the Great Depression.

Judging from the samples on their site it sounds like the kick is low and that it works although it also sounds very plastic and I think I could make one I'd like better with no plywood (real solid pine), calf heads and none of the ridiculous cymbal hardware they used on their's.

I also wouldn't doubt that there's a whole market out there for these things. It would be a great thing for a person to start out on I think, and for people who wanted a set of drums but only have a very small place. You could have it in the corner, drag it over and start playing without setting up a set.

I wonder how much music could have been made throughout this post if everyone did not have compare their proverbial "*$#@" size. Typically I am not one to intervene, however, this thread has been an overwhelming waste of time. If you want to know the problem with today's music scene/cultural scene it's this: People are more interested in what they can do and how it's, not only, better than the next guy, but gives them the right to discount everything else that could be CREATED!!!!!!.

Are we so ignorant to think, that because of what we have established the best musical outcomes, originated with us?

Everyone on this site could benefit from helping one another rather than telling someone "My way is the best! If you don't agree than that just proves you are a retard."

Make music. This site was set up, not so that, people could demean and degrade each other to make themselves feel better about what they do, but educate people who have less experience.

Take care of each other. Nobody on this site would be who they "claim" to be without the help of another musician/engineer/singer. How have we forgotten where we even came from? Nobody comes from the womb with a guitar/drum set/bass/dulcimer/djembe/grand piano/harp/keyboard/cymbal/microphone/ SUITCASE in their hand.

We need to get over ourselves and realize that everything we have become is a product of something we have already seen and heard.

Stop wasting time!

ZionBound, this thread is just people talking. I didn't pick up on any of the vibe you did...

What did you think of the GigPig?

Who are you calling a gigpig? :laughings:

The whole world!

Everyone is a lousy bastard............. and a GigPig.

It's funny that ZionBound found this thread to be a "grumpy thread"... compared to some this one has been almost, dare I say it?

Why?....Why?....Why?..... just for the novelty of using a suitcase and the challenges that would come with it.......just board I guess. And it does have a bit of an unique quality to it.

They're just jealous...

(they've got no imagination) :p

You mean like writing phone-book sized posts that no one actually reads and is probably way off base anyway? :laughings:

Don't let him fool you, ZionBound. He's read much longer post in the thread than yours...

Finally listened to the GigPig. I like it!

Kick Drum?

One can replicate just about any sound they wish, whether by mouth, or by stiking an object by hand or with some sort of beater.
I have used a finger tapping on a microphone, corrugated paper board and have even had a wonderful time with a Maytag washer and dryer.
The Blue guys come to mind.............
Even though one can make do with anything imaginable, we should remember that our forefathers did just that until they came up with genuine instruments, and spent years making them better...and why?
Because they could, and did, and I am grateful for being able to use the technology they developed. Candles opposed to the incandescent light bulb?
Hand puppets in a box or led hd tv?
Do what you will and Hail fellow well met.

And where did the term "kick" drum come from in the first place?
One does not kick it (unless you're Keith Moon, but in his case all drums were kicked.) Why not pedal drum? I am old school I guess...I have two bass drums in my set, each played with a foot operated pedal.
