That sound effect?

On Joe Satriani's self titled album, tune called "Look My Way". There's a little bit of vocals that have some very gritty distortion...but I can't seem to duplicate it. Anyone?

I probobly should have put this in the "Recording Techniques" area but I wanted to know if this is something that could be accomplished in SONAR 4.1. I also have Adobe Audition 1.5 if anyone has experience with it as well.

I've read somewhere a few years ago that Joe Satriani would sometimes have a mic plugged thru his guitar rig for doing harmonica tracks, very heavily distorted/effected, and would sometimes also sing certain parts thru it as well.

I'll give that a shot...something about it...has a buzzy bright tin can sorta sound to it.
 
I'm not 100% sure what track you're talking about but I believe that a vocoder tweaked right can do the trick.
